Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Buying a piece of laminated glass or transparent polycarbonate would run me under $500, so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in DIYing their own engine cover, and could give any pointers on how I could go about doing this myself.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I'd like to get a glass engine cover, however all my options are over 2k including shipping to New Zealand, and that doesn't seem like a reasonable price for a piece of glass/acrylic. Buying a piece of laminated glass or transparent polycarbonate would run me under $500, so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in DIYing their own engine cover, and could give any pointers on how I could go about doing this myself.

POST 2Original post

I’m guessing that most of that cost is shipping? It’s a fairly large package and NZ is quite a distance. In terms of fabricating one, keep in mind that the finished product is concave. It’s not flat. And it includes a substantial rubber seal on the outside perimeter which is necessary to keep the cockpit quiet as well as prevent fumes.

POST 3Original post

$1500 for the cover, $500 for shipping. It being concave could present a problem, the polycarbonate would likely be easier to make concave than laminated glass, I'll look in to companies that could do this and how that alters the price

POST 4Original post

Is that for the HIP cover? Seems higher than I remember.

POST 5Original post

Not sure what the HIP cover is, Ive only found the ones sold by DetailedWorks987 and CarGym. The prices I mentioned are in NZD which is likely why they are higher than you expected.

POST 6Original post

I paid $1540 for everything from Henry Chea includes 175 shipping, 90 packing, 1100 cover kit, 100 lighting kit, 30 chassis tabs covers. Don't know what it's made of or whether it will yellow but Henry sure did a lot of design and research into it and can probably address that point.

POST 7Original post

Henry’s product is great. It is polycarbonate. Not sure about yellowing. Honestly touching the Polycarbonate is not very hot. But only time will tell. I have put a paint sealant on both sides. I may even ceramic coat it. But so far it looks great as is.

POST 8Original post

Do you have the link to the Henry Chea cover? I can’t seem to find it online.
