Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hey, So my 987 Cayman 3.4L threw up code P1346 so I borrowed my friends fancy scanner and the code from the DME reads out to be "Valve Lift Control, Bank 1". I've ordered the part for the solenoid in the middle of the engine (997 105 301 00) as I got it out fairly easily, but the other solenoid towards the rear (996 105 303 05) isn't coming out. The seal around it came off and I'm not sure if its because its being held in or if I'm just not pulling hard enough but I would rather be safe then sorry. Also if this doesn't work does anyone know what else it might be? Thanks in advance for any answers 👍

POST 2Original post

What year is your Cayman ? On the '09 and newer cars with Variocam PLUS - there are two solenoids, one for valve timing and one for valve lift.. Does your friends "fancy scanner" provide real-time readouts of expected timing and actual timing? If so - that might help isolate which one it is.. Ah - referencing that code on AllDataDIY (for a 09 2.9L - but likely the same for the 3.4L engine) gives: So if you're attacking the solenoid for valve timing, you're working on other than the problem at hand. the valve lift control has its own solenoids. BTW - welcome to Planet-9, the Friendly and Intelligent Porsche Forum (with crabby moderators apparently.. ) When you have a moment, how about visiting New Member Introductions and introducing yourself and your Porsche. We love pictures..

POST 3Original post

Hello, sorry for the late response I got it all figured out. I have a 2007 Porsche Cayman S, I ended up taking a wild guess. I ended up guessing right, it was the solenoid toward the front/middle of the engine. I never took off the one I was struggling with, and luckily enough it wasn't the problem, thank you for the advise though.
