Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

What they do on the replacement engines, I have no idea as no one I run with ever uses Mobil 0W40 so there is no need for replacement engines.

99Porsche is right....someone replaced the standard 10mm bolt with that Torx fitting....just take it off with a pair of pliers if you don't have the right socket and buy a 10mm bolt to match the others.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

99Porsche is right....someone replaced the standard 10mm bolt with that Torx fitting....just take it off with a pair of pliers if you don't have the right socket and buy a 10mm bolt to match the others. I dropped that particular bolt down in the black hole somewhere and could never find it...so I put another in there.....looks like the PO did the same thing, only all he had was a Torx bolt.
You can't see the throttle cable in the picture?
To the best of my knowledge, no 996 engine came from the factory with anything but hex head bolts on the throttlebody.

I think they are E-torx (external torx). The seats use the same kind of bolts. The cheapest set I found is made from Lisle and sold at Pep Boys ($20). Sears has a set for double the price.
I bought a complete set of the E torx sockets for $11 from Harbor Freight...you need an E13 to take out any of the seat anchor bolts....I'm not sure what that on is that you show in the picture...but you might as well get the set. You can also just match the thread specs and change them to 10mm metric bolts./
The newer motors from Porsche have replaced all the 10mm hex head bolts with the torx bit shown in his picture. Since his motor is a reman unit from porsche, the bolt is consistent with the vintage of his motor.
