I use a product called Tygaflor, which you can buy in roll or sheet, and it's a tenth of the price.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I read around the forum and it appears that some people have cured it by applying teflon tape around the seal?!?!

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone, I seem to have developed a horrible rattle coming from the top of the dash. I read around the forum and it appears that some people have cured it by applying teflon tape around the seal?!?! So ... I took off the plastic bit that is between the boot lid and the windscreen to which the rubber seal is attached and went out for a drive. The result was no rattling or creeking, so I cleaned up the seal and the windscreen, sprayed it with silicone and put it back together ... and now it creeks again  ... Does anyone have any suggestions, recommendations? I didn't have teflon tape at the time so I used silicon spray as a temporary solution... Is teflon tape the stuff that is used in plumbing??? will that help??? Thanks a lot everyone!

POST 2Original post

No, it isn't the white teflon thread sealing tape. The stuff generally used for this is a self-adhesive teflon impregnated fabric tape. Porsche do a 16.5m roll of it (999 911 606 40) for £100 a roll - joke. I use a product called Tygaflor, which you can buy in roll or sheet, and it's a tenth of the price. I bought a big sheet of it ages ago, but I can't remember where from. It's used in all sorts of applications - try Googling it.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the reply! I couldn't find any of this stuff in Bulgaria so i might have to get some from the UK ... Do you think this is OK: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/L-Sealer-PTFE....c0.m14&_trkparms=65:3|66:2|39:1|293:1|294:50 Also should i be applying it to the windscreen or the seal? Thanks a lot!

POST 4Original post

That's the stuff, but it's a bit pricy for 15mx12mm. You can buy a 1mx1m sheet from here for less: http://www.asktools.co.uk/ . Go to consumables>teflon. It's usually best to apply it to the hard surface of the glass, and let the rubber surface slide on the Teflon. It's good for anywhere where a rubber seal contacts a painted, plastic, or glass panel.
