I just purchased a 2011
Cayman
. I don't even SEE
TPMS
listed on the info menu in the car. It's not showing an error; it's just not listed at all. I've had a Boxter (2008) and it had
TPMS
. Any ideas on why it would be flat missing from the menu? Thanks!
Yeah, it’s not an option on the car.
IIRC
TPMS
was optional in some parts of the world (on
987.2
) but I thought all US spec'd Gen2 came with it as standard equipment. I checked my optional equipment list of my lightly optioned 2010 and I see nothing that I think would include an option package that includes the
TPMS
.
In the US and as far as I know,
TPMS
was optional until 2009 when it became a government requirement for all new cars. If it's missing from your menu, it could be possible the previous owner had it deleted as quite a few owners found it annoying. I also suspect it can be reactivated with
PIWIS
type equipment available at dealers and often at independent
Porsche
shops as well. Not sure if there is alternative diagnostic equipment with this capability but that's also quite possible.
I took it to my mechanic and he noticed that the dashboard light isn't on either. He thinks a prior owner prob took to the dealer and had it disabled. He wasn't a fan of the system. Says it doesn't care if tire pressure too high and yells if it's like 2psi to low.
Mechanic TOTALLY agrees with you! It has the sensors on the car. He thinks a prior owner had it disabled. Thank you for the feedback!
That has not been my experience in my 14 yrs of ownership. Unlike some TPMS monitors which do as you stated (and many don't even tell you which tire) the Porsche one lets you monitor the exact tire pressure in all 4 tires as you drive. I usually drive with that display on all the time - since it seems stupid to display audio info that is already shown on the radio screen. If it complains about too high, I've never seen it and I often over-inflate my tires. Besides they naturally heat-up and raise PSI while driving. BTW, the sensors on mine appear to be accurate within 1 PSI. Some owners say theirs are less accurate.
Update: I acknowledge that for hard (track) driving, the air pressures will get much higher than normal due to extreme heat. This could justify the need to deactivate the TPMS for track use. You'd think Porsche would of made it simpler to deactivate just the over-pressure warning but leave the sensor readings available for real-time monitoring.
I don't mind
TPMS
but I'd be plenty satisfied with the Ford system of the same year which only goes off if the tire pressure begins to drop. There is no display otherwise; that's really the critical information that makes the car safer than in days of yore where you didn't know till you knew. I also trust my tire inflator gauge more than
TPMS
.
My
Chevy
truck actually can show me the pressure but doesn't really alert unless pressure is critically low. Sounds a bit like your Ford. I like it as well. That being said, my truck def isn't a performance vehicle
I can not stand it, idiot lights. In fact in my owners manual,
2008 Boxster
S, it states do not rely on this take your own air pressures. I think they are required in the USA, since 2007 production.
Hi, I'm here from the government to help you..........
I have an MY2010CS that’s been highly modified recently with a new performance motor by BGB Motorsports here in town. I keep my TPM screen on always when I‘m driving. My current mileage is close to 240K and it’s my daily driver. I need to know what’s happening when I drive.
I'm not clear if you checked "Menu Scope" in Settings, and I realize you have a different model than mine (2013
Boxster S
.)
Try this if available on yours, and using the wand at the right of the steering wheel:
Push wand forward.
Push wand down to Settings.
"Display" should be highlighted.
Push wand forward.
There you'll see various settings, gotten to by pushing the wand. Pulling wand rearward brings you back.
"Menu Scope" is for what you want to see when you scroll through the initial displays by moving the wand up and down. (Mine is set for Coolant Temp, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, and
TPMS
.)
A little clarification:
When at the Display menu, push the wand
up and down
to get to other parameters. Should be pretty obvious, but felt I should be more clear.
