Does this now mean that the times will be virtually identical if the manual tranny is used more aggressively than what Porsche appears to do?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

As reported by Christophorus #335, page 36, Technical Specifications: CAYMAN S Acceleration 0-60 mph: 4.9/4.8/4.6 (manual/PDK/Sport Chrono). CAYMAN S Top Speed mph: 172/171 (manual/PDK). CAYMAN Acceleration 0-60 mph: 5.5/5.4/5.2 (manual/PDK/Sport Chrono). CAYMAN Top Speed mph: 165/163 (manual/PDK). The above 4.6 seconds for the Cayman S (320 hp) would make it faster than the 911 Carrera (345 hp).

POST 2Original post

I imagine sport chrono times are qith PDK only, not manual transmission. Right?

POST 3Original post

Agreed, it is fastest with PDK and Sports Chrono Package (Launch Control). Also, I think the LSD might figure in here too to combat wheelspin!

POST 4Original post

Porsche lists 0-60 time for the Carrera (non-S) with PDK as 4.5 sec., one tenth/sec. faster than the new CS with PDK. CAYMAN S Acceleration 0-60 mph: 4.9/4.8/4.6 (manual/PDK/Sport Chrono). This means 4.9 sec. with the 6sp 4.8 sec. with the PDK 4.6 sec. with PDK and sport chrono, which includes the launch control. brad

POST 5Original post

Correct, the 4.6 secs for the Cayman S only betters the 911 Carrera in its base manual version (4.7 secs).

POST 6Original post

The PDK is an "AUTOMATIC" transmission. The PDK may be quicker but I can not imagine the experience would be as joyful as a manual. I understand the advantages on the track. I respect the views of people who think differently about this matter.

POST 7Original post

You can bet that Porsche times are conservative. I guess PDK would not vary much since it is controlled by computer.

POST 8Original post

How often do you guys doing drag strip starts?

POST 9Original post

It seems pretty apparent that a lot of owners of current manual transmission cars can beat the Porsche stated times. A more aggressive launch - and maybe more aggressive shifting - combine to lower the times. So, Porsche is now posting 0-60 times w/PDK and sport chrono that are 0.3s quicker than their stated manual transmission times. Does this now mean that the times will be virtually identical if the manual tranny is used more aggressively than what Porsche appears to do? I am assuming that a PDK/SC launch is already optimized and is consistent. If so, there may not be any significant benefit over a well launched manual - at least from a standing start. Thoughts anyone? Could this just be a slick PR move?

POST 10Original post

I don't care how much faster the PDK is, it's still an automatic...er, semiautomatic.

POST 11Original post

This arrived today from my dealer.Apologies if already posted

POST 12Original post

Sounds to me like Porsche is trying to make it sound to the buying public that PDK is worth the asking price they've put on it.

POST 13Original post

Some reduce hop by going to solid engine mounts, but I dont think this is an ideal solution. I have noticed that its worse if the tires are cold, and older ones seem less prone to this.
