Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Can I change the battery myself (please don't say the OPC need to do it LOL) if so do you by any chance know what size battery it takes?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Does your key open your boot ? :dont know: Mine doesn't even if the car is unlocked...may be just needs a new battery? Can I change the battery myself (please don't say the OPC need to do it LOL) if so do you by any chance know what size battery it takes? Thanks guys

POST 2Original post

on your key what are the icons refer to on my Coupe, 2 icons one 'key' symbol for the lock the 2nd is a 'front boot' symbol for the boot

POST 3Original post

What year is your car? I have a 2000 996 C2 and there are 2 buttons on my key - one for central looking and one for opening/closing the hood. No boot opener - am guessing that appeared on later cars?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its an 03 it has 3 buttons, one for the doors which is fine and one for the boot and one for the hood, which don't seem to work... guessing the battery may be lowish??

POST 5Original post

Hi Dawn, Have you tried a long press before you release the button? My current car (a coupe) requires a good 2-second keypress before the boot opens - the doors are immediate. My previous one needed less than a second for the boot. Could be a configurable boot/hood delay. :thumb:

POST 6Original post

I've got three buttons on my key - one for the doors and two smaller for the front boot and the hood. As said above, you need to hold it in for a second or two to open the front boot - if it's unlocking the doors it's unlikely to need a new battery. If it does, just get a sharp knife into the join of the plastic part and prise apart - I think it's a CR32 or some such which will be readily available to buy.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

 thanks guys, 2 second hold of the button does the trick... I feel a bit blond now and I'm really not LOL

POST 8Original post

Call me blond too as until reading this thread I didn't think mine worked either :thumb:
