to use tiptronic mode to get the most out of it, it's boring and slower otherwise.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, Looking at getting a 4s or TT, sorted a good deal on a 4s but its a trip, i have always had manual cars, bar my csl which i loved the SMG on. Reading around the trip is not really the one if you like to drive the car, i have always heel and toed on my manual cars.. Going to test drive a trip tomorrow but whats the general feeling across the board? its going to be weekend / spa trip/ ring trip toy... :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

POST 2Original post

i would say your doing the right thing by test driving both i just picked up a 6 speed didn't want a trip but a lot of people swear by them , trips seem to be a llittle cheaper to buy in 4s and turbo form at least , very little between them in peformance and mpg and early cars the trip fairs better in the RMS issues Rob

POST 3Original post

:welcome: I assume you mean Tip  I would test them both and see what suits you best. I've just got a Tip 997 having had a manual 996 and they both have their merits so each to their own I think

POST 4Original post

if you like a bit of H&T then I think a tip won't cut it. Drive both, let us know what you choose.

POST 5Original post

I've had both - manual and tip are equally excellent, it's just down to individual preference at the end of the day - drive both, see what you think.

POST 7Original post

I drive manual all of the time - the C4 was the first auto car I've owned! You have to use tiptronic mode to get the most out of it, it's boring and slower otherwise. For the first couple of months driving in tiptronic mode you will be frasturated with it, it takes some getting used to. However, once you are used to it, it really is brilliant! I couldn't really tell you which I prefer, manual and tip are both good in different ways.

POST 8Original post

A lot depends on your useage too. I have an every day cross-town commute, and I prefer the 'Triptonic' for that. If it was a weekend toy, then I'd probably go back to a manual, although the 'Triptonic' can be a lot of fun in manual mode, and like Paul, I drive it in manual mode all the time - I like being in control.

POST 9Original post

Manual as in MANual Tiptronic as in TIP ically what Heather Mills might choose

POST 10Original post

Agreed, Tip is a bit Graham Norten joking (sort of) buy a mercedes SL500/55 if you want an auto if you live in central london and always drive it all week buy a tip, if you only use at weekends get a manual, and if you live anywhere with open roads get a manual
