Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

For some strange reason I feel no chemistry between me and the 996s I have test driven until now.

You are doing the correct thing in test driving them and feeling the car.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

man, silver w/gray interior. pristine in/out, 43K miles, one owner.
Dealer asking 30K, I offered 27K. they said no. I walked away (it was very hard to do).
Reasons I walked away:
No warranty on the car, an additional 2.3K for it.
For some strange reason I feel no chemistry between me and the 996s I have test driven until now. Maybe I need to test drive some more.
I felt more chemistry with the Cayman (weird, I know).
My dream car would be black on back.
Have patience. You'll find one for your price. Continue looking, and perhaps, in 3 or 4 weeks, if that dealer still has the car, remind them that your offer for $27k still stands.
Good luck!
Tippy, consider the following;
- '99's are eight years old
- Porsche made a lot of them
- Porsche is continuing to crank out even larger qty's of new water-cooled 911's (997's)
It seems to me that these cars are experiencing a reasonable depreciation cycle.
If you choose to compare these cars to 993's or 964's you must factor in the following.
- These cars were produced in much lower volumes
- Porsche is no longer making air-cooled cars, so an understandable nostalgia exists for them.
This collectability factor is seen in the fact that high mileage daily driver examples trade way below the prices for garage queens. Additionally, it can be seen in the premium that '98's (the last of the aircooleds) carry.
Carlos,
Take your time and be patient. I looked for 1 year until I found the color combination and option package I wanted. In the mean time saturate your noggin with as much information as possible. If you are hesitant about the fitment then it may notbe the P-car for you. You are doing the correct thing in test driving them and feeling the car.
I understand, but I am trying to trade mine in and I keep getting it dry. There is a big spread between the MKI's and the MKII's in price. I guess my demand for a MKII is part of the reason why the driving of the MKI's value is going down.
You need to buy whatever it is that makes you happy. If it's a black/black cayman, then so be it. If a car (any car) doesn't "do it" for you, then it's no bargain at any price. We're not talking about a minivan here, we're talking about a sports car toy (basically). It's got to make your heart thump.
Michael
I love my 996 cab more today then when I bought it last year.
Sounds like you should buy a cayman...if that's the car that your feeling most connected too--who cares what the badge says?
Then again, it is not possible to get a cayman for $30k. They're awesome cars, though. Maybe your just a mid-engine guy. Did you drive a Cayman S or a regular one?
Just wait. 2008 is around the corner and the 99's will take another hit. You might drive home at 25K next year. As lots of folks have said, there are loads of low mileage 99s and 00s out there. Don't compromise, because as soon as you do, your "dream" car will show up on ebay for 5K less than the car you just bought
Lots of places. Those companines provide warranties on miles not age. A search for aftermarket warranties will turn up a number of threads.

I fell in love with cayman s also but but I really wanted a back seat for my son and the fact that 996 were such a bargain made it alot easier choice. I didnt feel as connected with the 996 at first but after the first year I love it more than ever and feel very connected to the car now.
Big difference in technology between '07 ANYTHING and a '99 ANYTHING. If you drove a new 997 you would have the same issue. I feel the same way about my wife's 335i Twin Turbo. It's got a lot of features that I don't. But I wouldn't trade her
