Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Afternoon All,
Well after many moons of searching and reading I think i'm going to take the plunge and get meself a 996tt.
I have read lots on what to look out for and also to avoid the Tiptronic, but my question is is there much difference in reliability between the earlier ones to the later ones, I was looking at a few around £30k but these seem to be 2000/20001 models.
Are these as good as say an 2002/2003 upwards or should I try and get as late as possible.
I'm having a hard enough time convincing the mrs that £30k is a sound investment for a car that will last me at least 5 yrs so could do with sticking to that but is it worth spending that bit more and having a more reliable car.
From what I have read I understand them to be reasnably reliable anyway.
Any advice/pointers would be greatly appreciated and apologies if this has already been covered.
Cheers
Lee
Sorry... I have just seen this topic.
If it was me I would be looking for a 2002+, with a 996 TT I would find it hard to drive it out of warranty and remember the warranty can only put put on a 911 upt o 10 years old (maybe 9 years??).
Miles wise, alot of 996 TT's have been used as a day to day vehicle so anything up to 8-10k per year (so 2002 = around 50-60k).
I have not heard of the newer ones being more reliable, as the 996TT took the facelift spec as standard.
Just make sure you check the history twice, and have it PPI'd.
(PPI it at a good indy JZM-PARR-Fearnsport)
Come resale.. The things you check now the next owner will be checking. So make sure you buy right.
Welcome to 911uk - :bye:
Enjoy the search, enjoy the car and feel free to post up any questions you may have.

Thanks for you reply and the welcome :thumb:
Ahhha, didn't realise about the warranty, I did look at a 2002 one but with about 80k on and thought maybe that was entering into expensive time !!!
After reading the Evo buying guide it states in there that the tt has a different engine than the normal 996 and is much more hardy, is this correct do you know ?
PPI will be a must I think and then warranty for the first year, so maybe I should budget for this and maybe look to spending that bit more.
Again, thanks ever so much for the nod and welcome and hopefully I will be around here for sometime to come.
Great site by the way too :thumb:

No worries Lee.
Your right, the TT has the GT1 engine block (from the Le Mans GT1 car) where the C4S has the standard block.
You will hear there has been problems with the standard block, this was mainly the early 3.4's.. And I would think by now all engine issues would have show up. So don't let this put you off the 996 C4S.
Miles on the TT... If everything has been done as required in terms of servicing and many things had been changed (clutch/suspension/etc..) This would not put me off a car.
Ahhhha, great news.
Thanks for the advice Dan :thumb:
I'll be keeping it a long while hopefully too so not to bothered about it going to the moon mileage wise....
Then it can be stored in my front room for all to admire once its packed in !!! :floor:
