Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Diagnostics are to check the wiring harness connector for power and or continuity.

Everything I have read says the car should be running really rough but the car is running great, no noise or rough idle or vibrations.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 99 boxster is coding 1531, indicating something with the camshaft, solenoid/actuator. Everything I have read says the car should be running really rough but the car is running great, no noise or rough idle or vibrations. Everything seems fine I cleared the code and two days later it came back on. Help anyone have any ideas before I have to take it to the local shop?

POST 2Original post

P1531 indicates that your VarioCam actuator on bank 1 either has an open circuit or is defective. Diagnostics are to check the wiring harness connector for power and or continuity. If the harness is OK, you need to replace the actuator.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What do you think the cost of the replacement should be? Thanks for getting back to me.

That obviously depends upon what is wrong; a wiring problem can eat up a lot of shop time, if it is just the actuator, local parts pricing and shop rates would apply.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks I appreciate your time.
