Suggestion

Our system works because we look at and check lots of things others would not bother with during a service and in so doing we can identify potential problems likely to harm the car before the next service date and put them right while the car is in here - which is also often cheaper due to duplication.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Other than OPC warranty, what other options are there out there. Warranty Direct seem to be more expensive that OPC when you stick all the info in and enter a realistic labour rate. :? Any advice/recommedations much appreciated.

POST 2Original post

I used Olympic warranties for my 993,they've paid out on the only claim I have put in for a new alternator, they paid approx 2/3's of the cost

POST 3Original post

I use Autoprotect they offer an £110 an hour labour rate £10,000 maximum claim for £895 a year

POST 4Original post

Tesco were recommended to me by a local Indy but apparently they don't cover 911's any more. Warrantywise seem to be getting good reviews about what the cover but I haven't heard of anybody needing to claim from them yet. I'm probably going to try 6 months of Warrantywise to see how it goes.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have done a search and found this.... I hope the customer service has improved since 2007 http://www.usedcarmart.co.uk/forum/t9315-olympic-warranties.html

POST 6Original post

Please read about our Lifetime Maintenance Plan on www.hartech.org buyers guide. For about the same cost as servicing and repairs from a main agent - it provides free servicing and an annual MOT and free labour for most repairs (only parts charged including wear and tear items like clutches, brakes and water pumps etc). It covers engines in which parts costs are minimal - but you need to be in the North West, have an AA, Rac or similar breakdown cover to get the car here or not mins a trip North once a year (if you live in the South). You get a fanatstic level of service when the car is here as we are trying not to see it again until the next service. Best value is a low mileage user but even @ 18K/year it still works out less expensive than main agent and it continues for as long as you want it to (no age, mileage or claim limit). Baz Hartech

POST 8Original post

Tech 9 RSJ Sports and Classic Hartech There may be more, all offer different plans Hartech have a number of years experience whereaas the others have all started their schemes this year

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Baz, I called Hartech today and I have to admit your policy is very good, provided you live within a reasonable distance to Bolton. The biggest issue for people (like me) who live in the south is that you need the car initially for a 2 day examination (which I understand is basically a very comprehensive service) and all future inspections, servicing and repairs have to be carried out on a weekday as your workshops do not work on a Saturday....which means days off work (2 per year). If I was local and didnt need to take time off work I would do the Hartech warranty without a thought...its a great product. If you had your workshops open on a saturday then your product would definately be of interest to me.

POST 11Original post

Another ditto. Baz, seems like you'd have a lot of interest down south. Ever thought about opening an agent down this way? Tricky stuff could be sent to Bolton for fixing as you'd need the car in for a while anyway. Just a thought

POST 12Original post

I looked into this 12 months ago and I ended using Car2Cover with a 3 year policy for £800 odd. Claims limit is the value of the car over the 3 years with no set limit per individual claim. Some policies had a limit of £8000 for example which meant engine replacements would be excluded. Hourly rate for South East is £70 odd but you can elect to pay the difference if you want repairs carried out at a garage with a higher rate, your choice. Never had to call upon them so no experience of how well they respond

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

done some more enquiring and found out that RSJ in Slough offer a product very similar to Hartech in cover and cost at circa £100/month inc vat. RSJ also don't work on a saturday but you can drop your car off.

POST 14Original post

Just to correct one point - we are open on a Saturday (8.30 to 12) except bank holidays, however it ia impossible to carry out a proper quality service and correct any problems within even one day (unless it is a minor service and the car happened to be in perfect condition) and unrealistic to invite a customer to drive up here from the South and expect to drive home after a service that day. Just one extra job that needed doing (and may well include a discount done at the same time) will extend the hours on the job beyond a day time. Our system works because we look at and check lots of things others would not bother with during a service and in so doing we can identify potential problems likely to harm the car before the next service date and put them right while the car is in here - which is also often cheaper due to duplication. As a result most of our customers experience excellent reliability and modest running costs. However part of that thoroughness requires a road test first and afterwards and yet the car cannot be worked on while it is red hot - so even if had both a ramp and a technician stood waiting for the customer to turn up - we still need to go out and road test it, service and check it over and re-road test it - very difficult in a day if you are doing a proper job. We also include a free MOT (done locally to avoid potential conflicts of interest) and they can take 4 hours to deliver and collect back again. Furthermore - as I come from the South East I am well aware of the differences in running costs for businesses there and here and we could not afford to be so thorough at competitive prices if based down South. We do have many customer from the SE - on the plan - one I can think of has been coming back every year for about 8 years with the same car still running perfectly OK by our system. He did have a broken valve spring once and the car was brought up here - fixed and collected but overall most of our customers from all over the UK manage with the distance OK as they receive back exceptional quality, reliability and workmanship, a close personal relationship with us and their car and the peace of mind of no hassle cover if anything did go wrong. I guess the older the car gets the more beneficial our system as a new car should not need such extreme care - but generally after about 3 or 4 years old - we still find plenty to sort out and keep on top of after that - when I suppose also a rare but potentially expensive engine problem could start to be a greater possibility and anyway discs, pads, clutches, suspension parts etc start to require attention. It also depends a bit on how you feel about the car. I must agree that people just wanting a service and stamp in the book and prepared to take a risk over unexpected failures will have no incentive to drag up here whereas those that like their car to be in tip top condition and want to know that the people looking after it have a hell of an incentive not to see it between services and who pick up the labour cost of anything they missed that goes wrong mid-term - may well consider it worthwhile (as many actually do). For those living within perhaps 100 miles of us it should really be a no brainer as we also offer standard services at very competitive prices as well as our "Gold" standard ones and still keep the older 12K or 12 month intervals between "free" services under our Maintenance Plan even on the newer mechanically almost identical cars that have had their service intervals stretched. Baz

POST 15Original post

I've just started on the plan and live in Ely, 230 miles away! Built a little holiday into it, Scotland this year. Will do the same in 2010. Drop off the porker, pick up the KA (currently £15.00 +VAT, per day, unlimted mileage), 3/4 days break then back to Bolton, pick-up and home. I didn't ask, but it would be interesting to know how many long distance customers Hartech have?
