I've had manual ac in a 981 GT4 and 981 Spyder and tbh there is no difference in efficiency between this and full climate which I have in my 718 GT4.
Hi
Looking to spec a new 718 GT4
I appreciate this can be subjective and personal but can anyone advise on must have options on the 718 GT4?
Many thanks

A PDK box ..........................
Spec is very subjective. It also depends if its a weekend car or a daily?
The 981 buckets are most popular. Clubsport package was a must for me as well but mines only used on weekends. I wouldnt have chosen CS pack if it was daily driven. Extended leather is nice on the dash, especially for the cost of the car, this should have been standard. Cruise control was a must and again in 2021 should be standard on a £75k+ car. Parking sensors ditto. PCM with nav/ apple car play. Brakes and gearbox are up to you, both are fantastic.
Some options I wouldnt bother with after having them:
Dual zone climate - Never touched it. Standard AC would have done just fine
BOSE - 90% of the time its turned off as im listening to the car
Sports chrono - Adds nothing to the GT4 apart from a fancy clock and a lap timer

An engineer with fit for purpose con rods. In all seriousness, it really depends what you intend to use it for. As an example club sport pack only makes sense if you are going to use it on track regularly.

It gives you the Track Precision app though, which I think is pretty cool for recording track days. Probably not as good as a vbox but not as expensive...

Sorry that’s one option it won’t have
Definitely manual
It will be used as a weekend toy

Disagree re. climate, the import bit is "climate" not "dual" on Caysters.
Agree on the other two though, even though I have the SC clock
Climate is worth it for the money. The whole point is you never have to touch it, because it will always bring the car to the same temperature.
With the manual aircon you're forever fiddling with it depending on if it's a cold or warm day.
Edit: and if you don't spec buckets, have you considered a GTS with comforts instead?
Spec it how you want it.
The 918 buckets not 981 are brilliant. I have a 981 GT4 with almost every option ticked apart from PCCBs which I didn't want anyway.
In my opinion the rear cage as part of Club Sport package does not intrude as a daily if you're going to daily the car, you still get the same access and space for boot and the frunk.
Mine has the Club Sport pack and it doesn't intrude at all.
I'd also definitely spec climate.

Spec it for yourself unless you're looking to spec it for the 'average' GT4 secondhand buyer when you sell
Bottom line there is no Mr Average and extras are a trade off between how much they cost and what 'value' they add come resale. If you don't have 918 seats then the car will be cheaper to buy and sell secondhand. It's as simple as that, as there are buyers who will want standard seats etc.
Dual climate is a 'must have' for me as I want to set a temperature and forget it. Others will be happy with manual AC.
Cruise is a waste of time when it's not adaptive so I wouldn't see the need for it but others will.
Cage can 'rattle' no issue if you spend most time on track but on our potholed roads?

Couldn't agree more.
If you spec for resale then that's what will happen.
If you spec for yourself then you'll enjoy it that much more every time you drive it or glance at it on the drive.

For clarification, it doesn't "rattle" but does "ping" or "creak" occasionally

Oh, and the actual answer is...
Buckets
If you're going to track it then Clubsport else not
Anything to take the standard (scratched aluminium effect?) trim off the dash - interior in external colour if that works, else carbon
Reversing camera
Cruise control to protect your licence on motorways
More affordable nice touches are 12 o'clock marking/seat-belts on different colour, Race-Tex Sun Visors

Don't spec one with engine issues.
:
Plenty discussed on other GT4 threads already regarding option if you want to search relevant threads.
Depends how long you want to keep it and as others have rightly said spec it primarily for yourself but if you intend selling in the short to medium term definitely have one eye on the market as well otherwise it could cost you more ££ if you are bothered re possible depreciation.
Several no brainer options which add good value ££ in excess of option cost new and what most buyers of lightly used GT4s demand would be buckets, extended leather, alcantara with 12 oclock marker, carbon, chrono, climate and to a lesser extent coloured stitching and light package upgrade, auto dim rain sensor and electric folding mirrors. Clubsport and to a lesser degree pccbs do very little to add appreciable value particularly as the car ages.
Expensive frippery such as Bose rear camera coloured dials cruise grossly extended leather and possibly pts can limit appeal and actually adversely impact on value.

I think my high spec, leathered up, PTS GT4 had plenty of appeal on the second hand market. It certainly didn’t adversely impact the value when I sold it.

I disagree about the adaptive cruise control completely. All of these "driver assist and safety" features just dilute driving and actually rob skill from the driver. An incredibly important part of driving is observation and anticipation ("reading the road, traffic, and conditions", if you will) and with ACC it is easy to lose concentration and it can be more dangerous; let alone frustrating, when it does something that you do not want it to.
ACC could help in the odd situation when you are not paying attention but are you not paying attention just because you have ACC anyway? Also, if you get used to ACC over an extended period of time and then drive a car with regular CC, it could catch you out as you get used to it (in much the same way as Lane Assist could). I have seen this happen to people; luckily, without accident but it was a stark reminder to them how little they concentrate due to the ACC ...
Two of my cars have regular CC and one has ACC. As you say, it's personal opinion but I much prefer the regular CC.
I have normal cruise on my 981 GT4 and when driving in constant road works and average speed cameras it's great to have. My wife had ACC on a S3 she owned and I hated it and only used it once.
Also the cage doesn't rattle it pings as Twinfan said.

Every option specced?
Twinfan is your top spec man!
:
Lots of options just change things e.g. paint colour so fully specced is a misnomer.
In terms of adding items my car has everything except PCCBs, garage door openers and BOSE i.e. full carbon including door sills, full alcantara including sun visors and full leather including fuse box covers and extended dash/door leather, LED headlights, Clubsport, double harnesses etc etc.

I'd be interested to see. Mine (June build, allegedly) is quite similar. I've always wanted the fuse box cover stitching!
An acquaintance of mine has everything, and I mean everything. Not seen the car in the flesh but it's basically a red version of mine with Aurum wheels!

You really did go with it all T - congrats!
With the Sun Visors, did it have the yellow stitch as your car has that colour deviated stitching? I also note that Porsche offer them in leather at the same price. Don't know which box i should tick on the Spyder order as it's likely to be driven in the open most of the time.
Is your car. Do it your way.
Colour is key. I saw a miami blue one yesterday looked epic . And a black one today . Looked good also.
Configuration is tough as so many ways to do it.
I like black . Gold wheels.
Or
Yellow. Grey wheels.or black wheels.
Or
Red. Silver wheels.
So i am not helping much!

Cheers, I love it to bits
The Alcantara sun visors do not have any stitching on them, I assume leather would be the same.

Looks a bit poverty spec to me. You haven’t got the leather edging with deviated stitching on your floor mats. Lucky it’s a keeper since it’s practically unsaleable.
This it what a decent spec looks like.

Missing the leather trimmed, with deviated stitching and micro Porsche logo, indicator stalks though?
If you are like me it will be the greatest car you will ever own, so don’t stint on things which you personally want. The fun is enjoyed long after the cost is forgotten, as a wise man almost said.
Watch the YouTube clip of Goodwood FoS 2019 - GT4 - where Andreas Preuninger explains which options he thinks are important.
If you want my view, and many wouldn’t:-
1. Carbon fibre bucket seats
2. Plenty of Racetex
3. Dual zone AC - as the man said above, you are paying for the ability to set the temperatures.
4. The 12 o’clock marker
5. Fire Extinguisher
6. Wheels and all the other details you can in black including callipers- whatever main colour you pick - it gives the car presence
7. The super-duper matrix headlights - they just look fantastic
8. Sport Chrono - you just expect it on a GT car
9. Colour coded seatbelts if it floats your boat
10. Bose, on a car like that you can’t have the standard system
11. Cruise control, obviously, all cars have it
12. Manual box, obviously
13. Folding mirrors, you will need them
14. Everything that is not Racetex should be leather - this is a premium car and should feel like it.
15. Personally I would have the AC, are you touring in the car or standing at a bar pretending you are just off to the Ring?
Finally, go through the Configurator extremely carefully, look at the recommendations, don’t be mean, and don’t miss anything obvious.
I would not have:-
1. Clubsport, unless you plan to track the car
2. Coloured dials
Best of British, or perhaps Best of German!

This - I find ACC a nice toy but don’t actually use it much. I use CC all the time in speed limited areas so no one can say I am doing more than 30mph through a village.

No doubt there is no difference in the power of the system, but the manual system is just up and down, so as the car gets warmer or cooler you have to adjust it manually, like an old car heater. It’s a ridiculous system on a modern vehicle. On the Dual Zone Auto system, you set a temperature on a digital readout and the system maintains it. That’s why it is worth having, it’s nothing to do with dual temperature zones, though no doubt you could use it for that.

If you haven’t already - Those harness lap belts need to be threaded through the seatbelt holes.

Good spot, Tyrone. I also noticed it and sorted it out a while back
its a very personal thing, but there are opinions from owners and potentail owners about what makes a car sell (or more desirable)
My spec took the car to just under £99k.
Must haves for me were club sport package, carbon buckets, i looked at used cars before ordering the new one and would not have bought a car without the club sport or carbon buckets.
i can undestand if someone is buying a gt4 as a daily not going for the buckets, but for me they are toys and track toys, so wouldnt buy one without buckets.
other nice to haves, ceramic brakes, not essential, but I had them on my scuderia and I haev them on my lambo, they look good, no brake dust, no issue of washing car and not drying the brakes before putting in the garage. expensive option and woudnt have put me off a second hand car but would have paid more for a car with them,
park sensor, its a wee carr, but they are cheap
contrast stiching, which is silly money and carbon interior pack, - again for me, must have the stiching as in a £100k car with no contrast in stitching it looks a bit bland, but thats a personal thing.
manual, pdk, is a can of worms, £2k additional for the PDK which i took, for a few reasons, firstl I am more used to auto box's in the ferraris and lambo and also in my boxsterS, i also have PDK in my 991.2 RS which was amazing, . if you are in traffic or commuting the auto is just easier , (I do still have a manual aston) the PDK has shortened the gearing slightly which porsche admits is one of the problems on the manual cars, pdk is heavier 20kg, on the car but its 0.5 seconds quicket to 60mph, if thats important ??? I will track the car a bit and I prefer PDK on track, its a personal thing and others will ike manual, but buy what YOU like, As this is possibly the last batch of GT4 cars the PDK ones will be rarer and will IMO command a premium over the manual cars. its certainly not a must have, but there are possibly reasons it may make the car easier to sell in the future. only time will teall.
regards
scott
PDK will inevitably be rarer on the GT4 but whether these will command a premium over the manual in doubtful in the medium to long term other than intially and over the c£2k extra cost is unlikely imo especially as there are fewer and fewer manual focused performance cars being produced furthermore the premiums on 991.2 manual v PDK GT3s are rapidly widening.
The PDK GT4 is only quicker to 60mph due to launch control. Once rolling, the manual is actually slightly quicker due to lighter weight and fewer transmission losses. But only very slightly.
cardigankid said:
Once the cars move into the enthusiast market, manual is guaranteed to be the sought after spec. It always is.
I bought mine to track, and I like PDK on track, so the enthusiasts can say what they like. Stuff resale.
I do not challenge the validity of your decision for a moment.
For my part, I like changing gears manually, and most modern cars deprive me of that pleasure. What I was questioning was the proposition that further down the line PDK cars will be rarer and therefore more sought after, and therefore more valuable.
Rarity matters, but it is not the only factor in value, and once cars reach the enthusiasts' market, there tends to be a preference for manual.
Hi
This is a slightly tenuous link to the original post.
I have recently sold my 991 and purchased a 2020 GT4. I am now trying to find out what the options fitted cost at delivery.
Are any fellow GT4 owners able to tell me the price of?
• Clubsport Pack
• Carbon Interior Pack
• Black wheels
• Sports Chrono
Thanks in advance

This was the list of options and prices for my MY22 car, which was locked in price wise (dec. 2021) before most of the price rises/parts shortages came in, so I'd imagine yours should be similar or a bit less than these
Hi
The cost of these options in 2020 was as follows:
Clubsport Pack £2,778.00
Carbon Interior Pack £471.00
Black wheels £387.00
Sports Chrono £336.00
