Bizarrely we replaced the Macan with a new one a month ago, and with no other changes the premium came down £100 and we got a refund!

Suggestion
During review meetings with the insurer it has been discussed that people are increasingly claiming for more minor damages which they might previously have "taken on the chin", that parts delays have caused increased courtesy car requirements and that general repair costs have increased.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just received my renewal due at end of month Its about £50 less than last year , as far as I can tell no change to policy , not complaining but having read these comments , does make me wonder
It seems insurance is becoming a joke now although my Cayman price wasn’t to bad.
I also have a Tesla model 3 performance (company car) and it seems those insurance price are going up big.
As for the used RR sport I recently bought, I was staggered how many companies won’t even touch them and is the first car I’ve ever had where insurance is 4 figs.
Yes, not the 911, but our family car went up by 150%+with Admiral to the point they now refuse to insure it. A few claims this year and that it's a range rover in London (thefts) doesn't help either.
Saw friend last night and they also fell of their chair getting renewals for their Audi A3 and F-pace. None of their circumstances or no claims has changed.
Insurers are claiming due to parts shortages they are having to lend hire cars for longer when people claim so that's why prices are up. Load of b#llocks!
My Wife was speaking to friends at work today and they've had their insurance doubled courtesy of Admiral.
Don't bother with Aviva either. 2.3k
M&S. 2.3k. Just for the Audi

I think the RS5 is falling into that category. I cannot get to below 4 figures. To be fair, it is a ballistic missile in a nice party dress, but even so...

Their costs have doubled? I doubt it. You’re right though, I don’t like it.
Admiral have almost doubled my multi car quote. Ouch. They've come down a bit after some serious whinging, but still, piss takers. Any advice on where to look beyond the usual comparison sites, none of which are being competitive? Cars are a GTS4.0 and a B9 RS5.
Lockton wanted £1400 just for the Cayman and the same for the RS5. LV won't quote, neither will NFU. Adrian Flux want my first born as part payment and the second born a few months later it would appear. I'm waiting on CK and Chubb to call me back tomorrow.
I'm 51 and have been well behaved for years and have loads of NCD. Anyone else had an unpleasant insurance shock recently? I'm assuming this is a sign of the times as the insurers all jump on the cost of living bad wagon and we all have to take one for the team!?

Do you have keyless entry or any unusual options? I did a recent quote and admiral was a bit higher (approx £50) than last year but nothing too frightening.
Back in March I was looking at buying a BMW 440i and got a quote of £430. Didn't buy it in the the end. Out of curiosity, I just ran a new quote for the same car and it's coming up with £636!
My multi-car (992 and X5) was £1250 last year and jumped to £1850 this year with Admiral. I haggled and got them down to £1,550 but struggled to get other multi-car quotes and others want a tracker. I’ve bitten the bullet but bit of a frustrating process. The X5 is the larger chunk of the cost.

Go check out the various financial results, there isn’t massive money being made. Direct Line made none last year from car insurance….
The Audi has keyless entry but it’s disabled and the keys are kept in faraday pouches but I don’t imagine insurers care about that, just that it has it. The Porsche does not. No other odd options. They’re both standard.

Repair costs have gone up substantially. Bodyshop costs are up, parts costs are up, parts availability has been terrible for the last couple of years so cars are sitting around for weeks waiting to be repaired whilst insurers are supplying loan cars (that’s the big cost) and then bodyshops charge insurers to score the cars whilst they’re waiting for parts. I reckon repair costs have probably doubled
Never mind all the total loss events from Range Rovers getting stolen in London.
The cost of insuring my early 811 went up by 50% last year but I honestly thought the premium was daft before for the risk/quality of cover (Chubb)

We had two cars insured via Saga which used to be on a multi-car policy but we separated them a few years ago as it was cheaper. They renew on the same day. A 2022 Cayman GTS and a 2019 Leon 2.0 FR Sport.
We took the option last year to fix the price for the Cayman for three years at £320 annually. Seems quite prudent now.
Didn't do this for the Leon and the renewal was exactly double last year, £180 to £360. Subsequently changed the Leon for a Born but Saga were still quite expensive so moved to Churchill at £270.
I’m sure some costs have gone up. I read the average increase to premiums has been 8% but it would appear the folks with nice cars that manage to not get them stolen and keep them on the road are taking a disproportionate hit.
I could be wrong. It does happen ;-)
Speak to Classicline regarding the Porsche (https://www.classiclineinsurance.co.uk/porsche-insurance/), the Audi isn't something they'd cover but my 911 and Boxster are with them and I've found them to be excellent.
If it makes you feel any better I was recently quoted £2200 to insure my A2

I must live in a crime hotspot. I’ve been trying single quotes as well and it’s not going well. Nice one for fixing over 3 years!

Every day is a school day. Fixed price car insurance for X years... I never knew.
There might even end up being a new PH thread:
Re-insure now or wait?

It is the first time we've done it. I think we had to upgrade to a "Plus" policy which cost an extra £25 or so, the main benefit bring this price lock.
Just double checked the paperwork. Price is fixed for three years providing we don't make any claims or changes.

It may not justify the extent of rises, but this is an issue. A colleague just got her car back after 3.5 months in a hire car. The damage - a broken headlamp which could not be sourced. She was chasing them every other day, but they couldn't find an original and wouldn't install an aftermarket (car year old and under warranty so probably why). And one of my team at work have had their van off the road for 7 weeks as Renault can't get the replacement steering part it requires. Parts supply is an issue, particularly with some brands.
On a brighter note, my Cayman insurance only went up £7 this year to £307. I also wouldn't insure with the nautical themed insurer, or any of its subsidiaries even if they were the cheapest. I’ve heard too many things to make me steer well clear.
Insurance is pretty steep this year. My recent renewal quote was double what I paid last year.
Hopped on the comparison sites and got a quote for a mere £100 more, best I could do. Irony is that it was from the same insurer who had doubled my initial renewal...
And just for contrast. We're with Admiral Multicover, and it costs £1161pa, and that includes a BMW i8, Subaru Solterra EV, Nissan Qashqai, and House contents and buildings insurance. It dropped £200 from last year. Both 57 years old, married, clean license, 4 bed detached house, HX2 postcode area. I thought that was pretty good.

They wouldn't even quite for me online. I might go and protest outside their head office. It's a 5minute walk from my front door!
Young persons perspective here...
718 GT4 and MK7 Golf R on multicar insurance with admiral for me in London is in excess of £4kpa with 6 years NCB. The GT4 is a fair bit cheaper than Golf as well.
Most specialist insurers won't touch me as I'm under 25, so have no choice but to go with your standard "run of the mill" insurers.
Gone to several specialist insurers and they all have polices where they wont insure anyone under either 25 or 30 years of age.
n12maser said:
That's mental, regarding the headlight.
But I also wonder what % of policies don't include a hire car - ours didn't.
Sure is! The issue with the courtesy car is that even if your policy doesn't include one, if you hit someones car and broke a hard to source headlight, your insurer would likely be picking up the bill for their courtesy car and the policy prices are reflecting this.

I actually think you've done pretty well there!
I'm mid forties and my two are nearly £5k pa with full NCB, clean licence and the 911 in a secure underground car park! Both cars need the trackers activated too.
Just spoke with one broker who actually had a chat with the underwriters and it's largely down to theft being way up in my area, well, as far as that underwriter was concerned.
Like every business insurance companies are profiteering at the moment, just hiking their prices to make more profit with less customers ( and risk ).
Business models have changed
I do think that this will be another factor that is going to impact on car prices.
We’re still in the ‘silly season’ for some asking prices, but the market in general will need to tighten its belt in the coming months.
My 3x car Admiral multicar renewal has just come through for end of this month. No claims or changes. Up from £1650 last year to £2450 this year, the rises split as follows:
2020 Mini: £20 increase
2022 GT4: £350 increase
2021 Discovery: £430 increase
I've done some quick comparison engine quotes and they all seem to be there or there abouts. So I think It'll be a case of just paying up.

Admiral doing quite well:
"Cardiff-based Admiral Group Plc has revealed how it fared during the full year 2022.
The past year proved to be a profitable period for the insurer despite high inflation, with group profit before tax amounting to £469 million. The sum, however, was lower compared to 2021’s £769 million. Operating profit also slid, from £780.9 million to £480.9 million.
As previously pointed out by Admiral, 2019 is a better comparison to recent performance, given that 2020 and 2021 numbers were “distorted by the huge positive impact of the pandemic on claims costs and profitability,” said chief financial officer Geraint Jones.
Of the group profit before tax, £615.9 million came from UK insurance; £(53.8 million), international insurance; £2.1 million, Admiral Money; and £(95.2 million), other."
I may have to suck this one up, which will annoy me. But I still have a few days left to look.
Got caught out by auto renewal on my van insurance, was all set to complain / cancel then noticed it has gone from 296 to 208! That was a real surprise, not NCB (19 years) or postcode related (not moved). Nothing else changed, weird but good.
Think my Cayman is 200 odd, mid 40's
No help at all for the OP, sorry!
Dunc.
What's the point of Multi-car policies when you've only got 2,3,4 or 5 cars?
Is it purely convenience? Because its never been cheaper IME.
As it happens my sister has just been complaining about Admiral but weirdly got a competitive quote from Aviva who have never even been close for me.

My TVR is under a £100, the Duster is circa £250. Was shocked that the bike insurance had gone over £200, my mate pays £70 for the exact same bike parked about 20 miles away.
I'd never pay 4 figures for insurance these days, I resented it when I was 17 and 18.
40 now.

7% profit margin doesn’t seem that unreasonable to me.
2022 992c2s and 2022 Macan T, wife + me on both cars, both 55-60, clean licences, max NCD
Last year £900 admiral multi, this year renewal came at £1800 in April. After about an hour on phone to Admiral with an incredibly helpful welsh guy, basically playing all the variables (whilst staying honest…eg. Minor variations on job titles ) to see impact on their algorithm/price. got it down to £1400 which I went with - couldn’t be bothered shopping around at that stage
Bizarrely we replaced the Macan with a new one a month ago, and with no other changes the premium came down £100 and we got a refund!
I have to go through the same process with Admiral every year. They send a ridiculous renewal quote - anything between 50% and 80% increase on previous year. I then ring up and politely ask them if they can do anything to reduce it. We make a few minor changes and surprise surprise, we end up roughly where we were at the year before.
My GTS 4.0 is with them on a single car policy at £560.
ha ha ha all these complaints about premiums going up, you have not seen the shed load of money insurers lost last year? remember with your admiral multi car you were paying about 40% of the anual premium last year which is why it has jumped this year i bet it is still the cheapest on the market??
i think Admiral profit went from £565million down to £65million!! or there abouts ilast year, many other insurers were have made losses for the year

Have been with Admiral for many moons and have multi car policy. Yep, as people have said each year renewal comes in higher but do a individual car comparison and then call them. Always get a massive reduction from renewal quote.
Have TVR and Cayman for c£500 all in, pressure is on kids' cars even though both 1 litres.

I wonder if that's to do with it being a 991.1 GT3, and the 'potential' engine issues that the insurers might be aware of?

Just got off the phone with Admiral. The chap apologised for the huge increase, and then cited some 'loyalty discount' spiel at me, and reduced it by £220. Nothing off the Mini, the rest split equally off the GT4 and Discovery. To be fair to the sales guy he ran through all the details on all three policies to see if he could eek anything else off, but to no avail, only the so called 'loyalty discount'.
So my final price this year is £2220, up from £1650 last year. Hey-ho, its is what it is, as that is still cheaper than all the comparison sites.

I wonder if that's to do with it being a 991.1 GT3, and the 'potential' engine issues that the insurers might be aware of?
Why would any 'potential' engine issues have anything to do with the insurance premium?
Those sorts of quotes are being declined insurance without having to explain why, there is always a valid reason why insurers turn down money.

I'm just guessing that with such a ridiculous price for insurance, they're hedging their bets that the engine might go pop and therefore might have to pay out significant amounts. Seems a bizarre amount of money for insurance on that car.
Insurance costs are rising. This always happens when there is financial problems in the economy. Less honest people start to manufacture claims and do illegal fraud type 'stuff' which means insurance co pay-outs increase. This then trickles down to the rest of us who have to pay higher premiums.

Normally higher interest rates on pre-paid premiums reduce insurers costs but complexity of modern cars together with higher parts prices will more than offset interest benefits.

I'm not in the insurance game but was often told by people who were that traditionally insurance companies made their profit on the money paid in advance premiums. As long as the net premiums:claims sum washed its face over a given period (rolling 1-3 years say) then they were happy their pricing was in the right ballpark. I suspect these days what you say is more true, even with higher interest rates.
I remember a time when Porsche made way more profit on the money markets than they did in direct margin on sales. Wasn't going to last of course.
After (earlier in this thread) noting the 50% rise in premiums on the F32 BMW 440i that I was recently interested in, I just got the renewal notification through from Confused for my E36 3 Series. Paid about £300 last year. This year: £130! Go figure!!

Unless you are suggesting if the engine went bang the car would mysteriously go missing I cannot see the connection with the insurance premium.
They don't want to insure him, there will be a valid reason for that, but it won't have anything to do with the engine.
Admiral are still coming in as the cheapest. 1800 for both, up from just under 1200. Their original quite was about 2100. I managed to get a quote on the RS5 at 1k but the cheapest quote on just the Porsche was still over 800 so not worth the bother of moving. My old 981 Cayman S cost about 350.
Oh well...

Like every business insurance companies are profiteering at the moment, just hiking their prices to make more profit with less customers ( and risk ).
Business models have changed
You seem to know alot about insurance i assume you are iun the business??
if like LV an insurer has made huge losses last year then why are they profiteering? i bet your the client who wants a courtesy car like for like, has a stiff neck and wants pi claim.....

I've just had exactly the same issue with Admiral on my Cayman GTS 4.0. No change in circumstances and a huge uplift in cost. Once i called, I got my renewal down to £556 for 2 drivers. I'm 41 and car is garaged.
I review and sign off insurance claims before they go to my employers insurer. In the last 5 years we have seen an increase number of claims, an increased average value of claims and an increase in claims being "inflated" (often genuine claims but where loss is overstated). During review meetings with the insurer it has been discussed that people are increasingly claiming for more minor damages which they might previously have "taken on the chin", that parts delays have caused increased courtesy car requirements and that general repair costs have increased.
After about 7 yrs with Admiral and the annual dance off with premium quotes….I’ve had enough and gone with Churchill.
Admiral wanted a 60% hike for insuring 5 cars, despite up to 15 yrs no claims on them all.
Insured them all with Churchill, with great policies for lower than Admiral’s price last year.
Currently only have one car insured in my name, Suburbs of Sheffield, garaged at night, 7000 miles per annum 2005 Porsche 997 2S renewal with LV. 250 excess , windscreen, breakdown cover for Europe drive another car etc.with LV was pleasantly surprised at £315 all in.As a bonus mine is pre 2006 the lower road tax level. Cheap car to run really.
Swapped my GTS to a GT4 yesterday. No other changes and, after the admin fee, the GT4 was £5 cheaper. I almost fell off my chair. But I’m not complaining. Admiral.

My TVR is under a £100, the Duster is circa £250. Was shocked that the bike insurance had gone over £200, my mate pays £70 for the exact same bike parked about 20 miles away.
I'd never pay 4 figures for insurance these days, I resented it when I was 17 and 18.
40 now.
What TVR are you managing to insure for £100 and with which company?

Oh yeah
Few too many sherries
That's ok as long as you are not driving
Just got the renewal for my Macan from Aviva. Has gone up to £400 from £300, no change in circumstances. Tried all the comparison sites and a few others and they were all £500 plus.
I managed to get close to Admiral's outrageous renewal using different insurers for the cars but not close enough. I don't buy the chat about hire car costs at all. It's nearly always a bolt on that costs very little to include a replacement car while yours is being assessed/written off. Our neighbour drove into our Alfa last year and paid for the repair himself, parts were readily available. I'm sure in some cases there are issues and shortages but I also suspect that there is also some piss taking going on. Churchill wanted 3k for the RS5 alone. WTaF!?!?
Anyway, if you've managed to get a decent renewal, well done. Hopefully things will settle down for next year. Fingers crossed...

This is what no one seems to talk about. Right now we have rising prices. Once the rising prices stop rising then that does not mean they go down. It means they remain level. So if we get back to 2% then we will not see prices going down. We will just see them going up less.

You raise a very fair point. But they are taking the piss. I just ran a quote through a comparison site with my parents address. The cheapest quote was £300 less than Admiral's for the Porsche which included the cost of a hire car. Cost of parts and hire cars etc. is an excuse. I'm sure some have lost out but some, such as Admiral, have not. Inflation is not running at 50plus percent.
Back to your very fair point, You're probably right, sadly.
Related to this topic, but I'm taking my GT4 on track for the first time in August, and I'm looking for some decent day/event cover.
Admiral (my current provider) don't do track cover and I don't do enough track days to warrant moving to a combined road and track policy, so I'm just after recommendations for the best 'one day' or 'event' cover?
Thanks in advance.

Try these folks. Not cheap though, usually around 1% of the value of the car. So circa £800-£900.

I have used Moris a lot over the years, most recently at the 'ring in the 991 and half a dozen times with my Spyder last year. Never had to claim thankfully but they're easy and pleasant to deal with and Justin is a gent

I also use Moris (though have never made a claim) and think Justin makes all the difference, though they tend to be well priced too.
