Mine was double din so I just chucked a Pioneer in, used the converter harness and the cubby hole replacement that the shop sold me - bought local to me as I couldn't really figure out with any certainty what I needed.

It's running into a Morel AB-Class analogue amp, that in turn is driving separate mid/tweeters in the dash, Hertz woofers in the doors, and then an amplified Focal sub under the dash in the passenger side.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Folks.. Sorry if this has been covered before (Newbie)
I'm looking to replace my single din cdr23 head unit with a SONY single din unit with front USB so I can play itunes.
Sony unit already bought as I know it works well with iPhone, aswell as being black fascia with orange illumination (oem look), not looking for SatNav Double Din upgrades etc etc
So the question......
My car has BOSE (maybe not the best in the world but Spot on for me), To make the new Sony work, I've read I need an adaptor so the BOSE 'MOST" fibre Optic cable can work.. This, I sort of understand (having fitted a Dension unit to my previous Cayman with PCM2.1).... But I've seen 2 very different types almost stating they do the same thing..

(First item on list for the above link)
https://incartec.co.uk/product/23-240-porsche-most-bose-amplifier-interface
I realise ringing the suppliers for confirmation would be simplier but any First hand experience would be useful as there is a huge difference in price.
I'm thinking, the item from design911 isn't what I'm after?? Maybe reading it wrong??
Any advice on how to retain the BOSE would be appreciated
Thanks in advance
Ok it's been a few years since I done this but from what I remember you unplug the fibre optic from the BOSE amp and if you still get sound you use the cheap one, if the sound goes off you need the expensive one. Guess which one I needed...
I did write a how to but looks like it's gone...
I've got an 02 with Bose and it doesn't have the fibre, so I'd check that if you haven't already.
Mine was double din so I just chucked a Pioneer in, used the converter harness and the cubby hole replacement that the shop sold me - bought local to me as I couldn't really figure out with any certainty what I needed.
It retained the Bose but it was really bass heavy so I had to mess around with the settings to get a sound I was happy with.
I've got a Blaupunkt Bremen DAB/Bluetooth head unit, which just about looks the part in a 996.1, mainly due to the interior having been designed for the 993. It's borderline though.
It's running into a Morel AB-Class analogue amp, that in turn is driving separate mid/tweeters in the dash, Hertz woofers in the doors, and then an amplified Focal sub under the dash in the passenger side.
Sound quality is extremely good, the gain control for the sub is hidden in the centre console bin, so you can dial in how much thump you want and then shut the lid again to hide it away.
However, I'm not the biggest fan of the Blaupunkt menu system, and am starting to think about the PCCM single-DIN unit, but one advantage of the Blaupunkt is that it has line-level (RCA?) outputs, which are better than speaker-level outputs. I might just have to get over myself, but when the rest of the system works so well it'd be a shame to ***** it up
I'm likely to swap the Hertz woofers for Morel units as well, just because I strive to be ridiculous.
I must admit I was tempted to tear the Bose out and put a proper system in but for the amount of time I spend actually listening to music in it there isn't really much point. Shame as I've got some lovely gear sitting doing nothing in my loft - Rainbow, Genesis, DLS, JL, Infinity (the old school decent Infinity) etc
Thanks for the replies chaps
Slid the old unit out and mine does have the orange fibre optic cables coming from the amp.
Think it'll be the expensive one but I'll ring design911 before ordering. Just can't get over the price tbh.
Does anyone know where else sells these apart from incartec??
I'll be holding onto the original unit so it can be put back to standard.
Cheers
I ended up ripping everything out to chase the interference that bedevilled the radio reception, which I'm happy to say (it appears!) is now gone.
A pleasant byproduct is that the sound quality is now really very good, and I've come to the conclusion that good stereo kit is always worth the bother (not sure about the money side though, it's not been a cheap journey).
