Hello
Alll the lights working on my
porsche boxster
2005 s except for the CDR radio. Nothing works- lights on buttons, display etc. During sunny days I can see the display and everything works on it. ( i.e. ) can change channels, select everything.
Is there a fuse blown. If so is it on the back of the unit or in the fuse box.
Perhaps there is something that is not connected.
If i pull either fuse, assuming that is the culprit, will i go into protect mode. I can live without having any lights, but not without having a radio.
Thanks so much in advance
John Andrews
Is your radio working? Only the lights are off?
Do nor worry about pulling the fuses, it will work fine afterwards. I had the fuse on the back of my CDR 24 for months, when it was fixed it worked fine.
ok thanks . can i get to it from the left or right side or do i have to take out the radio?
This aricle will show you how to get to the back of the radio. It is a pain.

Good luck
hey thanks for the document. i am now not sue it is the fuse for the radio.
I think if the fuse was blown the radio wouldn't work. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks
If the radio produces music, it is not the fuse. Look fo the fuse in the fuse box by the driver door and take the radio fuse out. Keep it out for 5 minutes and see if that resets the radio.
I pulled the fuse from the quarter panel and it wasn't blown. .If I pull the fuse behind the stero will it go into protect mode?
thanks
john
Ok pulled two fuses and left them out for 1/2 hour. Checked them and they are fine. even replaced them.
PUt back in. Radio says PROTECT. A few minutes later it went back to its original state.to Still no illumination on any part of the radio ( i.e. buttons, screen etc. )
I did find this on the back of the radio which disturbed me. What's going on. see attached immage.
I was surprised to see so few cable going to this big radio. The four wires are spliced together. Does anyone know if they are supposed to connect somewhere. I did not find any loose wires or a connector anywhere near the radio.
thanks
John
This thread stopped short of offering a solution/fix.
I just bought an 07
Cayman S
about two weeks ago, (30K miles). Because the winter weather was not conducive to driving a rear wheel drive sports car, it had to sit until the weather improved. Today it was pretty nice, so I thought I'd take it for her first drive! During the drive the stereo (CDR-24) played fine but the display only said "traffic." So I fiddled around with it, but then the display went black and the remainder of the controls/buttons would not work. The radio played but I could not adjust the volume, change channels, adjust bass/treble, etc. When I got home I turned the car off for about 20 minutes. When I returned the controls all worked but the display is still dead.
The only thing done to the car before I drove it today was I had the windshield replaced (it got cracked during transport). The windshield is OEM with only the antenna (just as it came stock). But I can't imagine how changing a windshield could make my display go blank.
I have not checked fuses or taken the radio out. If the radio is working, I can't see how it could be a fuse, though. I looked for a dash lights illumination adjustment, but couldn't find it. But I doubt that's it because the display did work for about 10 minutes.
Any thoughts what could be wrong? Any ideas for a fix? Is it time to buy aftermarket?
Thanks!
Similar issue with 06 CS.
Interesting fact: If I charge the battery overnight the display will come on when I
next
start up and stay on for that drive.
Next
startup the display will disappear again or show hieroglyphics. I even bought a brand new battery but that did not fix the issue.
Any electronic experts out there with an answer/solution?
Looking at the mangled fiber connector, the black tape, and the crimp - Someone's been in there before you. They probably had an aftermarket set up, but swapped back in the stock unit when they sold it. The pin outs for the CDR-24 are on line (google -
porsche cayman
cdr 24 pinout and look at the images). There should be mating wires for every pin used. You're probably getting a by product of the wrong signals going to the radio...
