For several years now I've been using a Dension Gateway 500 (from BumperPlugs) with my iPhone 4S in a ProClip mount. This connection used a Dension cable that went from the 30-pin Apple port to some round proprietary plug for the Gateway AUX-in port. Worked great, no problems. I recently upgraded to the new iPhone 6. I got a new ProClip mount to hold it, which just arrived. Due to the different connector on the newer iPhones (5 and up), I couldn't use the wiring I had already set up for the 4S. The new wiring requires the iPhone to plug into the USB port on the Gateway 500.
Now to the problem. When I have the iPhone plugged into the USB port on the Gateway, I repeatedly get a message on the iPhone "do you want to trust this computer" with yes and no options. Almost as soon as the message appears, it disappears again without registering any button presses. This message appears repeatedly every couple of seconds.
Has anyone had this problem? Is it simply that I can't plug the iPhone into the USB port on the Gateway? If so, I guess I'll have to get a female 30-pin Apple connector to male USB cable. If it should work in the USB port, what is happening? Do I need to buy some new cable from Gateway? (I made sure the Gateway firmware is updated to no effect. Also connected iPhone directly to GW500 with official Apple cable to no effect.)
Thanks for any advice.
Could be that the phone wants more current than the Gateway can supply. The phone sees the connection, puts up the message, starts drawing current, voltage drops, the phone decides there's no connection, takes down the message, stops drawing current, voltage rises, and the cycle repeats.
That's an interesting thought. Apparently Dension actually sells a power booster for this reason ($24). They also sell a Lightning cable adapter ($40). I'd rather not pay for that but it might be my only option. I'm going to look for a female 30-pin to USB adapter today and see if that works. If not, I'll have Dension send the new cables and hope that solves it.
edit: Looks like Dension is all out of the power boosters. :^/ I swear, I'm about at the point where I'd spring for an entirely new sound system - I've just about had it with the wonky Dension/fiber loop combination kludge.
I'd like to use an old iPhone 6 to replace the even older iPod Touch (30 pin) on my Gateway 500 Lite. I've been searching the forum for potential issues. Did you resolve the problem? Was it not enough power from the USB connection? Did you try a 30 pin to Lightning adapter? Do tell.
