Unfortunately, I ran into a series of issues with this unit that makes me question the overall build quality.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi. I've been reading about the
Dynavin
N6 on other forums for other cars, and I'm surprised to not see much info about it on Planet-9. Has anyone tried one, yet? It looks pretty incredible, is a direct replacement on the 987 with or without
Bose
, and it gets pretty good reviews. Anyone? I'm thinking about giving it a go for only $900 total.
You can get them in the US here:
Dynavin N6-PS Stereo Navigation System for 2002-2011 Porsche Cayenne – J&T Distributing
It does look pretty cool, but you're right, there's not a lot of experience from 987/997 people as far as I can tell.
I'd like to learn what the effects are on the instrument cluster and what features are lost. I'd like to know about some of the
PCM
settings like the light dimming and unlock behavior and what happens with those without a
PCM
unit...
One of the biggest things for me is the lack of knobs. It must be because they can't fit the large screen and knobs into the form factor, but I'm not sure I like the idea of not having knobs for volume and tuning.
subbed. would be very interested to hear about experiences. but, at that price, its not like you're saving a whole bunch from a normal conversion (most + new h/u, or new h/u + amp).
I'd also be interested in hearing about the experience with this unit.
Not sure I understand the pricing question though. Just checked
Suncoast
and they're listing the MOST-HUR unit for $775 vs the J&T Distributing price of $899 per the link. By the time I get a comparable HU this comes off cheap in comparison if it works/sounds as good as a Pio, Alpine,
Kenwood
etc. And I don't have to stash extra black boxes under the dash. I agree that it doesn't come off near as well if one is going the aftermarket amp route instead of keeping the
Bose amp
.
I am just in the middle of installing one in my '07 Base - a bit at a time as I get spare moments. I have the same N6 unit in my 135i and it is great. I went for another one as the previous owner of my
Cayman
had a cheap ghetto double DIN
Pioneer
unit cobbled in. Fortunately the wiring was spliced into the speaker wires, etc and the various plugs were still intact to
plug
into the
Dynavin
harness.
I am adding front and back cameras with parking radar. Now searching the forum to see how to run the rear wiring without disassembling the whole back end.
I don't have a lot of options on the car so I won't be able to see if all the
CAN Bus
functions work but they all work fine in my
BMW
(steering wheel controls, vehicle diagnostic info, etc.). I will update when I get it plugged in and running.
I finally found time run the last of the wires and plugged things in to test. The actual connection to all the various inputs and outputs was a breeze -
plug
and play. Everything fired up the first time -
GPS
, radio,
iphone
, Bluetooth. I don't quite have the power wiring right as the unit will shut off after about 5 minutes. You can turn it on again by pushing the power button but it will lose all the changes to the preferences. I had to add a constant 12v to the one in my
BMW
but I wasn't sure how the
Porsche
electronics worked. I have a non-
Bose system
but ordered and attached the
MOST box
with the unit as I spent hours trying to get the sound to work on my non-HK equipped
BMW
that still had fiber wiring. Speakers work like a charm.
The unit snapped flush right into the dash and looks factory like the above picture. That is a pain now as I will have to get it out to add the new power connection. I am still waiting for one of the cameras for the front so haven't tried them yet. I am not sure how much of the CANBUS functions work as I don't have controls on the steering wheel. I will see if the back-up camera's steering lines work with the wheel turn when it is installed. The
OBD
readings aren't working at the moment so I will check if the
plug
is fully connected in the module. They work fine on the
BMW
, providing various temperatures, fuel mileage, liters of gas remaining, etc. but I am not sure it that function works with Porsches.
Overall, I am pleased with the unit and its features, especially at the price point. I will add another reply once the cameras are working and I have the power issue figured out.
Awesome Pips, congrats. Where did you purchase your unit from? I see the direct supplier above, in addition thedynavinshop on ebay quoted me $825, but that Alibaba price is way better.
About the
MOST box
, you have the non-
bose speakers
but used the
MOST box
anyways? Or are you saying that you thought it needed the box from your experience with
BMW
, but it wasnt necessary here?
Hi,
Yes I've just fitted this unit as a direct replacement of my
pcm
.
Fitted easily in about 10 minutes with everything needed supplied with the kit.
Looks awesome and works really well with the
bose system
.

I bought this unit (and the one for the
BMW
) from dynavingps dot com. I live in Canada so I chose to use a distributor for warranty and support. I suppose I could have looked around more. They were very helpful in getting the
BMW
unit working. As I mentioned, it didn't have a
BOSE system
but did have fiber.
Because my
Cayman
didn't have the original head unit when I got it, I don't know if the fiber wires were plugged into anything or they were there because
Porsche
uses the same wiring harness for all the cars. After my experience with the
BMW
, I just hooked up the
MOST box
to save having to order and wait for one. I should have tried it before pushing the unit in but forgot.
I fixed the shutting off issue after a few minutes. Tapped into the yellow wire on the
Dynavin
harness and hooked it into the telephone fuse B9. Works perfectly now - coming on with the ignition and shutting off when the key is removed.
I ordered from dynavingps dot com last week and attempted to install earlier (I have the
bose speakers
, so I ordered the MOST converter with mine). Unfortunately, I ran into a series of issues with this unit that makes me question the overall build quality. Still troubleshooting many of the issues I experienced.
OBD
info never showed. Not sure if just incompatible, or another thing thats broken.
