ive search the forum quite a bit, but havent seen any articles or post describing the removal of the tweeters.
also id love to see the pictures of the folks who replaced the smaller oem tweeter with the typical larger 1" tweeters
how do you get to the tweeter??
help is appreciated
thanks
Remove the A-Pillar trim panel, unclip it from the c-pillar trim using plastic wedge, pull a-pillar frame towards roof/windscreen, and it will come off when you pull up, then insert a plastic wedge where the center speaker/sun sensor area is, in the front and pull up, undo the plug for the sun sensor. Insert plastic wedge under defroster trim, the left and right are two separate pieces that are held on with retaining clips. Once the trim is off, you have access to the tops of the speakers, the tweeters will twist and pull right out and you can easily undo the plug they are connected with and replace them with new tweeters.
so when the tweeter comes out, where does this red speaker cable go?
i take it this 3 way system in our doors doesnt have a crossover?
i only ask because the after market speakers i want will have a cross over which i hope to place somewhere on the door behind the panel
or maybe in the kick panels if there isnt enough space.
my question is can i route speaker cable from my aftermarket tweeter to the door where it will connect to the crossover?
any aftermarket speaker guys where are you crossovers?
Thanks
Ray
I haven't examined the
Cayman
system, but typically in an OEM system, the crossover is in the amplifier and the wires will run from the speaker to the amplifier. I've never seen a factory system that had outboard crossovers (other than a simple 6db per octive choke/capacitor mounted on the speaker itself).
okay so i figure that my crossovers are going to be too big to put behing the doors.
so this weekend when i tackle removing my door panels, and speakers ill have to route the midbass, and subwoofer speaker cables to the corner of the kick panel
Where i plan to stash the huge dynaudio crossover,
i figure i can route the tweeters speaker cable down to this corner as well
i was fishing around down at the footwell today,
How do i offically remove these carpeted pannels at the kick panel?
i can just pull it but it seams to be held on a little, i didnt want to screw anything up
i can route the tweeter's cable down by here
the carpet seams to be quite adheared to the top right corner, do i just pull ??
i hope that damn crossover fit back there.
then on to the drivers side.
If all of the speaker wires run to the amplifier, why not put the crossovers where the amplifier goes and use the factory wiring? Some simple testing form the amplifier location should verify if all the wires are there.
im running much larger guage wiring
OK, good reason. That should be a lot of fun, getting two pair of heavy wires through the door boots and connectors I mean.
How much power will you be applying to the door speakers? What kind of speakers will you be using?
I suspected this... so this should mean that every location that is wired to the front left/right output from the head unit has full range signal to work with. Does anyone know what the amp in the front boot is using for a crossover frequency for the door bass drivers? It would be really nice if
that was a full range amp too and those speakers just had low-pass filters.
Any chance you have some photos of this? I am car-terminology illiterate. When it comes to talking about C-pillars and A-pillars I am lost.
black987 - you can google up some pics of the ABC pillars - but essentially the interior trim removal starts from the area behind where your head would be (there is a small opening), and then move forward. be careful of the interior trim clips as they can be a little fragile after a few years. if you happen to have some spares would be recommended.
