Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just driven my first Porsche 911 which was an early 996 c2. I absolutely loved it and realised within 100 metres it is the car for me I do about 12k miles a year and my commute is mainly on a roads and by passes. Does anyone daily theirs and how do you get on with it driving it that way? Thanks Simon

POST 2Original post

:congrats: Simon I know of several people that drive their 996 daily not least 'Alex' who I'm sure will be on here shortly to tell you himself. Have fun, stay safe. :thumb:

POST 3Original post

6.5 years. Use it for work everyday. Goes to the pub with me, goes on holiday with me to St Tropez, gets used to take stuff to the skip, used to visit customers. Just been up to Arnside for the day in it with the missus and the dog in the back. Covered just short of 60k miles in it and now over 145k miles on the clock. Wouldn't have it any other way!! Took this out the bedroom window last night when I got back from the boozer. Still looks mint:

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks chaps Just advertised my M3 I just need someone to buy that now

POST 7Original post

Yep daily driver here too, although it's had the past three months off due to lockdown and working from home. Last year it did the commute, run to/from Le Mans, Epernay and a light tour up the east coast/across to the lakes and back down again. They're a genuine do anything anytime car. Enjoy!

POST 8Original post

Yep, daily for 5.5 years, I only do about 8k per year but it's used through all weathers come rain, shine or snow. Family food shops, trips to the tip, It's gone camping, Le Mans, carried the MTB etc it just gets on and does the job, often left for 5 days but starts every time. Considering that it's now 20 years old it's been great, it's an A to B car for me but it makes every journey fun and when it's parked up I always glance back at it and look forward to the drive home after a trip abroad. They like to be used.

POST 9Original post

Had mine for 6 years now, it's the last one ngestt I've ever kept a car which says it all to me. Not been a daily but at 61 yrs old and after what we've all been / going through, I've made a decision to run the wheels off it and sell the mini I have as a daily. I had a full Hartech rebuild a couple of years ago so need to get some pleasure in return for my expenditure 😜

POST 10Original post

Mine was daily'd for 10 years by the previous owner and he always sung it's praises in that role. I intend to do much the same although have 3 cars between two people, one of them a ratty old e36 which is perfect if I'm going somewhere dodgy or driving home late dodging suicidal kangaroos. The only downside in my view is being a bit 'conspicuous' and people making assumptions about you in spite of the fact a 996 is half the price of the hateful 4wd utes polluting the roads these days.

POST 11Original post

It's funny you should say that. The amount of "oh check out Mr poor man in his Porsche" or "you must be dealing drugs" comments. The thing is if it was a couple of year old ford Mondeo for the same money nobody would bat an eyelid. People see what they want to see unfortunately. Porsche= flash and loaded. For me Porsche=dream car and enthusuast./hobby.

POST 12Original post

OP, If you really want to use your car as a daily driver year round, I recommend you buy some winter rims and tyres for the winter months. The 996 is pretty poor in icy / snow covered road conditions. The combination of wide rims, wide rubber and summer tyres simply doesn't work and the car is a real handful - even my C4!! Living in a country area where gritting is unreliable, I was once stranded in an inch of snow when I used mine as a daily driver. I was fortunate to have other cars to call upon in these conditions and learned to leave the Porsche at home.

POST 13Original post

Never have a problem with mine in the snow :dont know: I've even had 4x4s follow me up some local roads and get stuck. Dunno what a C2 would be like but you've still got all the weight over your driven wheels.

POST 15Original post

Just get a set of winter tyres and you can outdo any 4 x 4 on summer tyres.
