I want to replace the wing mirror base on my 996.1 as a previous owner has fixed the mounting solid presumably because it's was damaged/broken in the past.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I want to replace the wing mirror base on my 996.1 as a previous owner has fixed the mounting solid presumably because it's was damaged/broken in the past. Do I need to worry about what pin count the replacement (eBay) mirror is and whether it's from any year of 996 or 986 given I can swap all my working internals, glass and mirror case across to the donor mirror base?

POST 2Original post

The housing is the same, I had my 996 C4S mirror which had memory and auto-dimming glass knocked off and just transplanted the internals into a mirror housing that came of a 986 Boxster which had basic non memory adjustment and normal non dimming glass, the housing is identical. worked out pretty well since people listing mirror housings on ebay seemed to want almost 3 times as much putting 996 in the title than those that put 986 in the title for the same part.
