Hi. The car is not driven for around one week. When the car is started today, there is a sound from the engine that seem like the engine can't start. It is like the sound after a car is not driven and there is not enough battery. The car is started and the check engine light is on, stepped a little on the gas and the light turned off. Is the check engine light on because there isn't enough battery to start the engine and it thought that there is a problem with the engine? Anything to check for? Thanks.
Anyone can help? Is it good to bring the car to the dealer? The car is driven for awhile and started a few times. The engine light is not on. Thanks.
if there's not enough battery it won't have started. the CEL light was probably an emissions warning from the leftover oil etc. in your pistons and also the cats were too cold... once they warmed up it turned off.
The car sounded like it is low battery and enough to start the car. After the car started, the RPM was low. I say that the sound is like there is not enough battery because one of my car had the same sound when it was parked in the garage for two months and started after the long time. Thanks for the information. Anything that I need to check? Is everything fine since the car is fine now.
If you're reluctant to head to the dealer, you can try to get a cheap ODB II code reader and see what the issue was. All codes should be stored in the system even if the light has gone out.
Good luck.
Extend Your Battery's Life
I don't know how many of our readers are aware of this fact, but batteries begin their slow death from the moment the acid is introduced to the lead plates and the electrons start flowing. Every moment of a batteries life, it is producing sulfates and it is sulfates that ultimately short out your battery rendering it as "shot" or "dead". Recurring deep discharges or annually allowing your battery's voltage to drop ("get weak" or "go dead") creates much larger amounts of the sulfates to form more quickly on the batteries lead plates and precipitate like a snowfall to the bottom of the battery.
If anybody has been driving for a number of years, I'm sure that they have once or twice inadvertently left parking lights, glove box door or etc. energized only to return to their vehicle one or two hours later and be surprised to find a "weak" or "dead" battery. You may have noted that the same battery (when new) would have tolerated such acts of forgetfulness with no problem but now that the battery is aging (sulfate build-up) it is losing its capacity.
There is a wonderfully simple to install, inexpensive and peace-of-mind producing product that I use on my families, my business truck and my Cayman S (six vehicles). This device will preserve and extend your "like new" battery performance for double or triple the normal battery life. For just a fraction of the cost of a new battery ($59.95), you can keep your battery cranking strong at "like new output", prevent the inconvenience of an unexpected battery failure and also protect the environment by saving all of the energy required to recycle/manufacture two additional batteries.
For winter storage, just leave the Battery Life Saver installed and use any battery maintenance charger and a conventional household timer that cycles the trickle charger on for a period of time then off for the same period of time repeatedly. This will keep your battery strong as new for maybe a decade.
Regards,
Joe
Humm that thing sounds good... but with all the electronics in cars now a days especially BMWs with iDrive how will this thing affect it? I'm actually interested in it for my BMW... its 3 years old and now the battery is dying on me. Its weak to start in the mornings, I have an appointment set up to visit the dealer next week for this issue... Sooooo I'm wondering if this device will work with cars with tons of electronics... Even the Cayman has enough electronics in it that will frown upon varying power.
If anyone knows... if you jump start a BMW with iDrive now a days... you have to go back to the dealer to reset everything... Active steering Dynamic Drive... etc etc etc... pain in the butt...
Check Engine Light
Dealer replaced ORVR box. Sticky valve problem.
