From what I've read the 996 18 inch and above needed to be 10j so is there any negatives to running a wheel that's an inch narrower?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all thought I'd found some ideal wheels on Facebook but fear they won't be the right size from doing some reading but thought I'd double check as I'd really like them. They are 18 inch BBS split rims and the fronts are 7.5 50 which I believe is fine but the rears are 9 52 and I think this is too narrow for my 2000 C4 and they would only be good enough for the boxster. Is this correct? Thanks in advance for any assistance

POST 2Original post

I've run 9in rears with zero issues. Using the 265 section tyre. Perfectly fine, I'm sure that's what the original 17in wheel widths are.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. From what I've read the 996 18 inch and above needed to be 10j so is there any negatives to running a wheel that's an inch narrower? I'm running 20 mm spacers on the rear too with my 17 inches at the mo and that seems fine

POST 4Original post

Sorry to be boring, but ask your insurance company before committing. They might be fine about it, but I'd have thought a narrower wheel with a lower profile tyre is going to upset the handling, particularly at the limit.

POST 5Original post

A 9" et52 would fit a 996 with no issues. You'd have about 6mm more 'poke' than a stock 10" et65, which is nothing... I'm running a 15mm spacer on a 10" et65. 255/40 or 265/35 tyre.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all. There is an other option that I've seen which I think is more designed for the 996 but don't know if these would be too wide on a narrow body car. They're 18 inches again and Fronts are 235 / 40 r18 8j et 57 Rears are 295 / 35 r18 11j et 51 Would the rears be too wide? And would the offset be ok? Obviously I wouldn't be using spacers on these size wheels. Thanks
