This is the microswitch that I thought of when diagnosing the issue with my Indy - but he actaully changed the door lock module which is part part number 8N1 837 015C - not sure if he replaced the micro sitch as well.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, 2001 996 TT has a problem with the driver window not staying in the slightly retracted position when the door is open. This causes the door to stay ajar when its closed. Its as if the computer senses the door latch being opened, retracts the window, but then runs it back up as soon as the latch is released. I've tried re training the window, all the tricks in the owners manual, advice via the phone from the dealer, but no luck. Is there a sensor that tells the computer that the door is open? Anybody seen any thing like this? Peter

POST 2Original post

Just repaired this. There's a switch inside the door handle assembly that is faulty. My Indy replaced it for about $150. I can take a pic tonight and show you the part. The test is, with the door open, pull and hold the door handle open. If the window retracts normally, and then goes back to the closed position when you release the handle, its the switch in the door handle.

POST 3Original post

Here is a diagram from the PET showing the micro switch.

This is the microswitch that I thought of when diagnosing the issue with my Indy - but he actaully changed the door lock module which is part part number 8N1 837 015C - not sure if he replaced the micro sitch as well. DO you have a diagram of this part - I have the one that was removed but my camera is dead.

POST 6Original post

The diagram above (post #3) is the only one in the PET showing the door handle assembly. Here is page 2 of the parts list for the Door Handle assembly for the diagram above.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The lock/latch mechanism was the culprit. There's a microswitch in there that was faulty. "Ramp's" post was exactly on target. Thanks, and this is a great forum. Peter

POST 9Original post

It's not a close up but here it is, I think it is the one with the wires attached.
