Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Use aet turbos' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use aet turbos' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can someone with some technical knowledge please explain to me the difference between this K16 core fitted to Mercedes Benz Trucks and the K16 core fitted to 996 Turbos?
Pretty sure they're both journal ball bearing, with very similar looking oil line fittings, obviously the turbine and compressor wheels and housings are different, and possibly the compressor back plate, but I'm struggling to see why there's over $1,000 difference in the cost of the actual core?
996 Turbo K16 core ($1,300):
Mercedes Atego Core ($150):
I used AET turbos to rebuild my old K16s. They replaced everything except the casings lol!
Might be worth a call to them or A N Other turbo refurber to see if they can price parts and part numbers to shed light on this (seemingly massive) Porsche Tax pricing differential?
The turbine housing at least is bespoke to the 996 - it has very specific mountings for the exhaust and manifold that seem to be unique to the 996.
The compressor cover is a reasonably generic shape and ports.
The turbine wheel seems to be reasonably standard, Ind. 54.96 mm, Exd. 48.97 mm, 12 Blades.
The compressor wheel again seems to be quite large for a K16 turbo, Ind. 51.34 mm, Exd. 76.69 mm, 6+6 Blades, and may well be bespoke to the 996 turbo, which means the back plate may also be bespoke (might actually be for a "normal" K24 turbo).
However, you can source billet compressor wheels and turbine wheels for around £100 or so each, so again, it doesn't really explain why the Porsche 996 Turbo is as expensive as it is.
There's no groundbreaking tech in it as far as I'm aware, it's a pretty standard turbo with pretty common parts. No exotic materials, coatings or ball bearings.
And don't get me started on the wastegate actuators, Porsche want £300 each for actuators that are pretty much identical to those you'd find on a Saab or Audi for £50 or so.
Then again, Porsche ask £1.29 + VAT for an M8 hex nut that costs them a few pence!
