Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. My car was relatively low mileage (80k) but needed almost everything replaced due to age.

The sad thing about the 40 Jahre is that they used the front end of the C4S and not the rear.

I think its best you get a drive and see which you prefer, I had my heart set on a turbo and after driving one i fell for a narrow body aero kitted 996.
Test drive a good example of each, although i understand

Best thing to do would be to test drive a good example of each, although I understand that that is hard given the current situation.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello everyone,
im a newbie to Porsche and to 911uk so please be gentle
And apologies if this question is already on the forum somewhere - I did do a basic search but didnt find anything.
Actually I'm new to the water cooled Porsche 911. I once owned a 911 930 Turbo but that was a lifetime ago and now I'm back in the market.
after a lot of reading, youtubes etc, I came to conclusion that the C4S was the car for me But recently I've been distracted by the 40 jahre version and there are some that aren't that big a difference in price between the two so it's got me wondering again.
id love to get the forums thoughts on this.
thanks in advance.

The sad thing about the 40 Jahre is that they used the front end of the C4S and not the rear.
Obviously the Anniversary car is rarer but a lot will come down to whether you prefer the looks of it over the wide bodied variant.
The 40 Year car will be 2wd, quite a lot lighter, more powerful, and rarer.
It's got the second generation engine X51 performance kit, which whilst less comprehensive than that fitted to the first generation of water cooled cars is (to a nerd like me) a very cool thing to have. Additional cooling as well.
C4S will be dynamically quite different - 4wd, heavier, less powerful, more GT (relatively speaking) than the 40 Year car.
Best thing to do would be to test drive a good example of each, although I understand that that is hard given the current situation.
No contest - but I would say that!! If you PM me with your e-mail address I will send you a PDF copy of a 911 & Porsche World magazine article comparing exactly the same thing - 40th V C4s. I also have a bunch of other stuff on the 40th if you are interested. As in the posts above, rarity, extra power with X51, the LSD, plus R030 suspension etc all are plus points. Turbo front end with bigger rads as well, GT3 side skirts and a full leather package inside. All in a narrow body car which is what I personally prefer. For many though the wider body car looks better and the 4wd appeals. Plenty of other information on the 40th anniversary facebook page including info on many of the cars currently for sale here -

For me the 40 Jahre is the GTS of the 996. That power pack and some of the other unique goodies you get make it that bit special. The C4S is beautiful though, the Kelly Brook of the 996 range.
Thanks all. Some really useful info to chew on.
I started with th C4S entirely because of the back end. But now I don't know if that's all I should be thinking about.
What about mileage? I've a chance to buy a 40 jahre edition but it has over 125k on it. Should I steer clear?
Hi, Welcome! I think its best you get a drive and see which you prefer, I had my heart set on a turbo and after driving one i fell for a narrow body aero kitted 996.
This is very subjective so its down to your preference, the 40 has a few special bits on and is ultimately a better investment due to its rarity. The C4S is considered one of the best looking 996's
I think the market is still strong for good, sorted cars. i do however thing there is a deal to be done.
good luck in your search
Look for a C4S with the X51 engine. Best of both worlds.
Personally the turbo front with narrow rear and the chrome wheels is not a good look, whereas the C4S looks epic but of course doesn't come as standard with the lovely x51 pack.
Literally this very minute I've just uploaded a review of the 40 Jahre to YouTube - might help you make your mind up

No Contest. 40th is rarer and more special. Care about what's been done to it rather than the mileage. My car was relatively low mileage (80k) but needed almost everything replaced due to age.
Think I'm a bit "special" though as I don't understand why the C4S attracts a premium. Most folk seem to favour a 2wd over a 4wd yet they're willing to give that up for a wide body. Makes no sense to me. Also think time will favour the narrow body cars since all 911s are bubble buts now.
