Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Fitted a PCM 2.0 into my 996 that I got from ebay and it was plug and play, the guy I later sold that to had the same experience.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi chaps, i am passing on my PCM2 unit to a fellow porsche owner, and I read that the units are coded to the car's ECU rather than VIN - can anyone confirm? local OPC tech wasn't sure, but he said if it's an early ish PCM2 it might not need it. Does anyone have an experience on what needs to be done?

POST 2Original post

Fitted a PCM 2.0 into my 996 that I got from ebay and it was plug and play, the guy I later sold that to had the same experience. So believe there's no coding on these radio's.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks, let's hope so! It could be the newer ones that need coding. As I mentioned, local OPC wasn't sure.

POST 4Original post

Mine was from a 2004 which was the last year of the PCM 2.0. I know you can code options on your car to get all the features like navigation directions and audio information on your instrument cluster which may be where the confusion is. Additionally PCM 2.1's defiantly needed coding to the car or they can brick your amp but thats a 997/987 problem as PCM 2.1's were never supplied for 996's.
