Hello everyone!
Long story short, front bumper on my
987.1
got scratched, brought to dealer referred body shop (offenders' insurance is covering repairs). Shop wants to replace bumper... I asked if they would do a GT3 bumper swap (cheaper than oem) but they will only work with oem parts for fear of bumpers not matching up, etc.
Any suggestions on how to persuade them? Anyone have problems installing the GT3 bumper from getty designs (i believe it's the same one for sale on all the major
porsche
sites).
Thanks in advance!
Ya some get kinda weird about that especially when insurance is telling them not to do that.... my shop would...
I don't think the shop cares about the insurance co... more that the bumper wont align properly/etc.
Maybe find photos of that specific piece mounted and show them? Additionally, aren't you the customer? Man things have changed.
go to a different body shop, it's literally their job to make things like after market bumpers and body work fit, If they can't do that idk how much i would trust them as a body shop
There's going to be different regulations and insurance restrictions that could impact the workshop doing the repairs. They could have restrictions like needing to show receipts/bills of purchase of parts as part of their payment processes or even internal controls preventing them from buying parts from non authorised suppliers.
A negotiation with the supervisor could be helpful and you could see how to work with them on this. Sometimes even this is not an option and you may need to take it to a different shop as their policies and procedures would be different.
Fitment issues and quality of repairs is of course the other main factor as they can't guarantee it all the time. Alternately if OEM then there is no argument - we bought the original part and its that's the end of it.
I replaced my front bumper with a GT3-style. It took about 8 hours to get it fitted properly and prepped for paint.
I agree with this.
Usually insurance companies won't pay for oem, here they are insisting ? doubt it.
I would say to the shop - you want to do the job, this what I want. They won't do it, take it else where.
Note there is internal ducting that is different for the GT3 nose. I had it done on mine. I used nose from NR not Getty but I'm sure their stuff is good they are a big player here.
Just looked at bill. Radiator ducts were $217.12 Fit and install bumper $920 (8 hrs.) so it did need work to fit, paint $965. Mine would be higher as they did a rear wing also. If there's an extra cost involved just agree to pay the difference otherwise just live with original bumper if you don't want to pay the extra cost.
Other side of it is, you could just get one of the aftermarket GT3 smile kits and have that installed before paint. Probably a lot cheaper, though it's not the actual GT3 part.
Does the GT3 have an actual third radiator in that intake spot? Without a radiator there could that create too much air flow up through the vent?
I did this with my car when someone hit it. You need to find a shop who is willing to work with aftermarket body kits. If they only do OEM, then I don't know if I'd trust them to do aftermarket since they probably don't have much experience with it.
First of all, I'm not sure technically
who
the customer is - might be the ins. co. Secondly, if I was the shop owner I'd require you to agree to pay all charges over and above the "book" rate for the OEM bumper and to release them from any responsibility after it leaves the shop. It is not the business of an ins. claim shop to make ill-fitting after-market parts fit work. All that said, this may still be the opportunity to get a GT3 nose for less than you ever would otherwise. Go for it!
Just curious why you need a new bumper if it’s only a scratch? Pics? This seems senseless.
