Hey guys and gals,
I would like to do headers on my 987 which means I also would need a tune.
I just curious on how to go about this Tune? Do I take it to a shop and have them do it? I have see ECU flashing kits, but have not done any research on them or how they work.
Thanks for your guidance
Keith
It can be a costly venture to do a tune after only headers......
If your future plans include any other modifications (air intake/filter, TB, plenum, full exhaust, etc) the ‘tune’ will need to be mapped for those additions.
So best to make some sort of a long term plan upgrade wise so you don’t spend hundreds getting your program remapped down the road.
It’s a rabbit hole...
Scott at softronic has been very good.
Thank slingshot
I forgot to add, I do have all of that done. Borla exhaust, ipd plenum, gt3 throttle body and evens intake.
If I was you, I would call Scott at softronic and he can walk you through the steps of how his software is specific to your add on’s and you can then determine if this is a step you want to take or if you want to farm it out.
Emails make things far too complicated when a 10min call takes all of the guess work out of it.
Enjoy!
Your mod journey continues! I've the FVD tune which I think is good. For the number of hardware mods that yiu've done, I'm reading a custom tune is probably the best way to go. 2 names keep popping up. Softronic and Cobbs. Do share which route you eventually. take and your feedback. Stay safe.
I knew exactly my mod plan... I did an awe exhaust/headers, intake etc and did the Malone ecu-flash... all that might have bumped it up to 320-325hp-ish... so far so good and I don’t plan to do anything else... I just wanted a reliable upgrade that i could return to Oem... I’m sure there are better tunes, but honestly an N/A car gain on a reflash is limited with a stock motor
Agree on a phone call vs email... I run my life in the same manner...
I used softronic software on my 987 S. I did exhaust, high flow cats and long tube headers plus IPD plenum. Softronic did just fine!!!
I believe the OP is asking what method you used to install the flash tune in your car? With most that I’m familiar with (coming from a Corvette and Focus SVT), you purchase A handheld tuner that plugs into the vehicle’s OBD II port. You then download your stock tune onto the device and then transfer it to a laptop or other computer and email it to the company who you are going to have tune your vehicle. They then write a new tune for you and email it back to you and you do the procedure in reverse and upload the tune to your car.
sounds complicated but it’s actually very simple.
The previous suggestions of finishing white hardware upgrades you were going to make is correct and then get the tune written to accommodate them. Some companies will allow modifications to the tune as you upgrade your components.
In my case softronic sent me a file which I downloaded from my laptop using their cable.
