Suggestion

The Cayman doesn't feel anything like as vivid, but I have a suspicion that even in straight line it would give my old 964 a damned good run for its money.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Well I bought my cayman (non s) about three weeks ago, and I love it... However, its just a tad too slow. Whilst I suspect Im going to get you should have bought an S comments... I didnt. and Im stuck with a non S. So. Anyone done much to one of these. Im quite happy with the handling, just need a little more ooomph.. Normally I would go exhaust, ECU, maybe airbox. I would love to take it to about S performance, but I dont want to spend a forutune and totally destroy my Porsche warranty. Any ideas? Im based in the UK, so need products I can source here. Im liable to have loads of Q's, and hopefully help out wen i can! Thanks guys. PS. I got the yellow one from JCT 600 in leeds with the 19's on!

POST 2Original post

We'll (car guys) shall not be satisfied with factory, period. Do the normal stuff and let it breath... intake, exhaust possibly chip flash. Enjoy each personal choice you give it, and have fun! Reno

POST 4Original post

I don't know about warranty issues and mods. I would just go with the lead foot option. Pedal to the metal as they say. Give it all she's got and have fun! Also, based on some of the posts here, when your car gets broken in (around 2000 miles) it will be stronger than when new.

POST 5Original post

+1... These cars get noticeably stronger after several thousand miles. And yeah, it's still quite fast, enjoy what you have..

POST 6Original post

I'm not sure what options exist now, but I would expect you to see more in a little bit of time. Right now, the cars are fairly new. I would expect you to have the exact same options, even if the parts are slightly different. How much are you looking to spend?

POST 7Original post

Im not sure on expenditure to be honest. As much as I would love to drop in a big engine, its not gonna happen. I would imagine spending up to £5000, but incrementally. (otherwise may as well jst bought the S!!!). Ordered the techart broschure this week, so will look into their exhaust and perhaps airfilters. Not sure if you can get AWE in the UK, but they are certainly popular here!

POST 8Original post

I'm on the same boat as lewisjtintin, but in the US.. Purchased the non-S version, i love it but feel it needs a little more power. I've never modded a car before but i think this one is a keeper so I want to enjoy it. Any thoughts and suggestions for improvement are welcome..

POST 9Original post

Take a careful look through the "mods" forum - there's a lot of experience in here already for you to read about what people have done to their cars. The Cayman 2.7 is still pretty new, as mentioned, so it will take awhile for model-specific mods to come to market for them, but since it's a naturally aspirated motor, you are really looking at the basics (as you mentioned) of intake, exhaust and chip modifications for the kind of budget you have. I don't know that your going to get 50 hp out of all that to match the S, but most people with these modifications seem to be getting 30-40 HP. To get more, you're talking about increases in displacement and compression to achieve that. Read your owner's manual and the caveats therein about what will and won't effect your warranty coverage. I'm sure there's different language in it than we have here in the states. Again, take the time to read through this modification forum - there's a ton of information already collected here to give you some guidance. brad

POST 10Original post

More push in the bush I too am getting ready to play around with some mods. 1. A.W.E. 2.chip 3.de-snork . Cost less that $5000 U.S. and it should be a good start. My dealer saidhe would be glad to do the work-better than some shadetree. Also get some Zaino products and drive it like you stole it!

POST 11Original post

I am not aware of any non s exhaust but Superchip and REVO did a ecu remap for the non-s cayman. Both BMC and K+N did a performance air filter to help breathing from the intake side. Of course you can desnoke your car which is free of charge! My Americans friend can correct me---I think those sports exhaust from Cargraphic or techart that fit the 2005 boxster 2.7 should be able to fit the non-s cayman with minimal/no adjustment!!

POST 12Original post

I guess I'm in the same boat, love my 2.7, didn't want (and couldn't afford) the S, but of course some more grunt would be nice. I am however tempted to say leave it a while until you have done some miles. I have now done just over 3,000 miles in mine, and there is absolutely no doubt that it is getting stronger. Perhaps most surprising is that there is a definite improvement in lower end torque. I also suspect that there is more to come as the miles build up, so don't be too hasty. The other thing is that the more you drive it, the more you learn where the sweet spots are, and on a few occasions recently the car has surprised me at just how fast it really is. In truth, I suspect it is actually faster in numbers than it feels subjectively. In particular, I suspect there is a little bit of "damping" in the fly by wire throttle, no doubt to protect the engine from rock ape drivers. This can give the feeling that the car is not responding as fast as you would like, but the numbers coming up on the speedo display tell a different story. If you have come from one of the older, harder edged Porsches, the Cayman can feel a bit soft, but progress over the ground tells a different story. I had a 964 Carrera 2 before, which was real wild ride. It was undeniably fast, but it tended sometimes to feel even faster just because all the feedback was so vivid. The Cayman doesn't feel anything like as vivid, but I have a suspicion that even in straight line it would give my old 964 a damned good run for its money. And when it comes to the twisty bits, the 964 wouldn't see which way it went. I will dabble with mine too, but I'd sooner put another 10k miles on it first. Cheers John H

POST 13Original post

Let's hope no one here gives you any "should have bought the S" comments. This site is for all Cayman, S and non-S and what someone buys is their own personal choice. Enjoy the ride!

POST 14Original post

The usual suspects: Exhaust, headers, Flash (I hear Revo are getting good results?), Filter, De-snork, Superchip? Or/and look at reducing unsprung weight.
