Any experiences of Performance back boxes (other than PSE)

Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket silencer for a 2002 996 Targa, I know the PSE is supposed to be great but I can't justify £1500 for a nice sound. Has anyone fitted the Oettle or design Tech or any other after market exhausts and can recommened them?

Try doing a search with the key word Oettle, loads of treads on there. Just having mine modifided the same as the Oettle, feedback from previous posts says its a great and cheap modification. Have a look, all the info is out there for you. Enjoy :thumb:

What made you choose an Oettle?, you say it's similar - is it a different supplier therefore? Do these exhausts drone at all? - I had an aftermarket fitted to my mustang gt, it was terrible - made yr head hurt because of the drone at cruisin speeds, Lee

A friend of mine has a Roock exhaust on his 996. It sounds fantastic, I mean really perfect - like a 1960s Ferrari - but to live with? :dont know: We did 1000 miles one weekend (I was in my own car), and he didn't complain. :thumb:

If you read the numerous treads on the Oettle you will find that the mod is a 1" 16SWG bypass pipe that is welded inbetween the inlet and outlet pipe, there are no internal modifications, just the pipe, by saying similar i meant done by someone else, oh and for £400 cheaper! As for the sound i haven't read a bad review so bought a 2nd hand genuine spare set that ive had modified, fingers crossed :thumbs:

hmmm, just a bypass pipe- that's interesting, have you got any pictures and do you know of any workshops that will do this?, who did you use for instance?, thanks for the info, Lee

Oettle - 430 pounds for adding a couple of pipes... I think the phrase, see us coming springs to mind. I am looking at the miltek replacement boxes, full stainless, two boxes for 550, seems the best deal. I tried to buy some this weekend but the two places I tried were out of stock..have to wait.

But it isn't just two pipes you are buying from Oettle - you are getting two complete silencers outright. Sure, you can do it cheaper by modifying your own, or buying a set on eBay and getting them modded. but £430 isn't outrageous for what they are supplying. They used to be £300 about 18 months ago, but I guess that's just a result of a crap exchange rate - nothing to do with Oetlle. The Miltek ones seem like a very good price thougjh.

AGREED, very reasonable price, esp if ur own back boxes are a bit rusty etc, as there ones have a guarantee. I have them, never looked back, plus there is no drone to answer your question when cruising!

Hi, Just to say I fitted the Milltek boxes on my 02 996 along with s/s manifolds and can recomend these. Deeper tone a little vibration in the car at tickover and no droning at any speed. They do sound great at 5500 - Redline really snarls ! ! :thumb:

I found some Agency Power back boxes for mine. Very sensible money, circa £400 from memory and I have been really impressed. They sound great, no drone at any speed and are really high quality....

I had a Dansk system fitted about 3 months ago. Too boomy when the engine warms up, vibration at low revs and all for the best part of £700 before fitting. Had it replaced but the new one is the same.

As i have posted before, i now have my mufflers back from the welder (many thanks Finlay at Dynoflow), so in total, £50 for the boxes, converted at Dynoflow with 1" 16SWG and now booked in to be put on next Tuesday for £150+vat. End result is a set of mufflers converted in the same way as the Oettle product, for a lot less :thumbs:
