This is not a probability of success.

The kits were also available to fit at the dealerships so it's entirely possible for you to take your 996 to any OPC and have a kit fitted there.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I want to add an Aero Kit to my 1998 C2 and would like some advice before i splash out the cash. I have read some of the comments on the forum about adding kits, and members diss approve to changing the original car, but i like the look of the kits and i intend to keep the car for some time...I have enclose a pic of what i want my car to look like..what i would like to know is 1/ What's the best 2/ Are after maket kits any good 3/ What costs are involved 4/ Are they easy to fit In the pic is this a GT2 or GT3 kit

POST 2Original post

that looks like a GT3 to me....... but it could be a kit or the real thing - too many glasses of wine have been consumed to know if its a real one or not! :drink:

POST 3Original post

Looks like a genuine GT3 kit to me... In fact it looks like my old car! It also has the extra bum-flaps - oops, sorry - GT Side trims (behind the rear wheels).

POST 4Original post

That's a GT3 kit fitted to a 996 Carrera 4. It also has the optional extra side fins fitted to the rear PU. The kits were also available to fit at the dealerships so it's entirely possible for you to take your 996 to any OPC and have a kit fitted there. In order to retain as high a residual value as possible, it's always best to go with the official kits rather than some unknown after market kit (unless it's TechArt or Gemballa for example). ~ Maxie

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the info guys...so what kinda costs am i looking at here...so its a GT3 kit...so that means a new bumper...side skirts and rear spoiler?

POST 6Original post

Yes it does but it also includes the removal of the rear retractable spoiler and the electrics that go with that. For painting, fitting labour and VAT all at an OPC, you should see some change out of £4k (a 997 GT3 kit costs just a little more than this). ~ Maxie :thumb:

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone had this kit fitted, found it on the Porsche Shop Aero Kit GT3 Mk1 Replica All High quality glassfibre Includes :- Front Bumper with splitter, Side Sills & Rear Spoiler & gurney strip plus wiring loom for rear lid http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/cgi-bin/ca000001.pl

POST 8Original post

I bought this very kit from them a few months ago, and had a horrible experience with the retailer. The kit was also a very bad fit. I have not installed it yet cos it will need quite a bit of alteration for it to install correctly, especially the side skirts which may not be usable as they are warped and will either fit the rear well, or the front well, but not both. I will most probably end up getting another set, which means money down the drain. Only the rear wing seems ok, and I'll probably use that. The bumper fits, but the cutting of the front vents are not neat, I will have to find a way to "put back" material and smoothen it out. They provided a wiring loom for rear wing deletion, but no fitting kit/parts at all, which means I have to buy my own hardware to install the side skirts, or get a body shop to glue it on the car.

POST 9Original post

Piccie is Cup Aerokit (GT3) on a non-GT3: not many GT3s with rear seats and sunroof - might be a Bristol Sunroof Centre conversion, mind ;-) Titanium coloured calipers: C4 Show your working Maxie, show your working!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Blimey i would not expect the kits to be that bad..after all they are well over a grand....i guess if Porsche Shop did the fit they would know the pit falls...anyone had any experience of work done by the Porsche Shop? My budget at the mo could not stretch to 4k...i was looking at maybe 2K max Sorry was does a Cup Aerokit mean?

POST 11Original post

In terms of parts, it is the kit consisting front nose cone, side spats, rear fixed wing/spoiler. All parts are available independently (along with GT Side Trims, not part of Cup spec) - but "job lot" is Aerokit Cup (in Germanic form) or Cup Aerokit when anglisised grammatically. The kit is commonly refered to as GT3 kit (as it is ALMOST fitted to the GT3 model - technically a full GT3 has the third centre rad aperture, this is optional on the Cup Aerokit, for instance on installation of X51 or tiptronic) However, in terms of nomenclature derivation, the kit is named after the series the "GT3 Cup" which product and race planning preceded the successful homologation of the original 996 "GT3". It is also more PC, as for example, VW may sell a "Sport" kit to make your car look like a GTI, but they won't actually call it a "GTI" kit as this degrades the genuine article. As a point of trivia, Porsche parallel developed the CupAerokit'd narrow body C2 with C4 strenthened front chassis/body structure + track suspension and roll cage etc (as GT3), but with M96 engine (STD 3.4) and what became the factory PowerKit (X51) incase the GT3 3.6 (GT1 derived block) failed racing regs and/or reliability requirements for a successful homologation. The model was to be called the "Carrera Cup". Once the GT3 was signed off, the first batch of Carrera Cup models were reengineered and sold off in Japan as a curious special edition model called the "Power Up Edition"

POST 12Original post

I'd speak to simon at Porsch apart 01706 824053 from memory new front pu about £500 new side skirts about the same second hands rear spoiler or replica £6/800 about £5/600 to paint and fit i'd certainly get genuine side skirts to ensure they'd fit and Porsch aprt are set of nice helpfull guys, i've never had a problem with anything from them

POST 13Original post

I did this recently, albeit to a MKII 996. For all the part numbers go to page 267 of the Tequipment Catalogue at https://techinfo2.porsche.com/techinfo/pdf/en/catalogues/E_TEQ_KATALOG.pdf I found a genuine s/h rear lid elsewhere and then bought the rest from Porscheshop because they were the cheapest, although it was pretty close. The parts I bought from them were genuine Porsche so the fit was good, didn't want to take the risk with replica parts. They didn't initially send the fitting kit for the sides but after telling them the description on the web included them they sent some over. BTW, Don't forget to buy the wiring loom that disables the electric spoiler warning light. All in it's cost £3500 for a perfect fit and genuine gear, £1200 of that was paint and fitment. To keep the cost down try and find a good second hand rear and fit as much of it as you can yourself, but be aware that a GT3 rear won't fit a Carrera....look the same but different air intakes on the underside. Stability wise, the car is much happier now and got a good blast down to Goodwood on Sunday for the Breakfast Club

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Great info guys I cannot get that link to work though You mentioned that it wont fit a Carrera, i asume you mean the rear bumper...i was looking at a front bumper, side skirts and the rear spoiler, like the one on the pic....regarding the front bumper...do i just need to fit a lip, or do i need a new bumper....sorry for all the questions Steve

POST 15Original post

Whole new bumper. The nose cone is "more pointy" and has big chin! Also, air intakes different.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
