The thing about drilling out is that it leaves a nice clean hole, and no little cracks from which you can propogate more cracking.

I agree re: your point of 170mph car etc, however I would like to seek out a good refurbished wheel so it may be practical to have it repaired for say 1 month etc

That can be repaired, but to be honest, would you want a repaired wheel on a 170+ mph car??

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hacked off!
got a massive nail or something through my tire tonight, AND its gone THROUGH THE METAL too!
how strong must it be!? seems to be a square nail/bolt
can it be welded?
cheesed off as do not have the cash for a new wheel, will have to see if I can get a refurbed GT3 one[/b]
cheers! yes was unlucky! was only going about 30mph in traffic on the edgeware road, abbout to do a 120 mile journey, so had to cancel that! train to meeting tomorrow! :x
Do you know where one could get it repaired?
I agree re: your point of 170mph car etc, however I would like to seek out a good refurbished wheel so it may be practical to have it repaired for say 1 month etc
I will be intrigued to see what it is when i pull it off! very strong whatever it is!
Thanks
Edward
Also try a breakers (Douglas Valley or PorscApart), they'll have GT3 wheels in stock I'm sure and will probably sell singles. Also try Benjy Alloys and Monty's.
Lastly, as it's a split rim wheel you can get one with a badly curbed rim, get it split and put together the two decent parts.
The wheel could be repaired safely. Not welding however. Suggest drilling, tapping and inserting a grub screw (tapered one is best) and secureing it with Loctite .
Regards Big Bob.
PS Someone was obviously very generous to you allowing you to bring the wheel inside the house!
cheers good point on the split rim, and the breakers yards!
feeling a little more positive now, and the meeting went VERY well in liverpool today for my new company, despite having to take the train, so good news!
hmm, I think thats above my level, it looks a bit cracked!
why not welding out of interest?
Is Loctite a glue?
Yes, she was generous letting me put it on the upstairs landing carpet, and even more so for allowing me to wash the wheel in her bath/shower upstairs! (well i would not want dirty water in my own bath now would I?
(it weighed a tonne going up 4 flights of stairs to the top floor!)
Then again I have been comforting her over boyfriend trouble recently so she owes me!
Always amazed by how wide the tyres are even on the standard c2 when you take them off, they dont look nearly as wide on the car!
Hi Tedwedz.
The thing about drilling out is that it leaves a nice clean hole, and no little cracks from which you can propogate more cracking.
You could still drill out and then get some one to weld up the hole.
I would not weldup a cracked hole as you describe, because this could propogate further cracking as a result of heat distortion caused by the welding temperature.
Loctite is a chemical thread locking device, that will stop the "grub screw" coming loose after screwed in. It does also seal the "joint" too. But yes it does the job of a bit of glue!
Best Regards Big Bob
Very generous flat mate by the way. Especially allowing you to use the bath!
