This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause

Sometimes that works, otherwise, the most common problem is a weak battery which causes the alarm system to go off because it couldn't arm itself completely.

Suggestion

I don't know if Cayman suffers the same problem, but I'd imagine most car systems run similarly.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

So I'm parking at Border's, get out and hit the lock button on the key. I'm no more than 50ft away, the alarm (Horn/Lights) goes off. Thinking that I did something wrong, I walk back to the car, unlock it, re-lock it, pull the door handle to check that it is indeed locked and I walk away. I keep the key in my hand, making sure I'm not pressing anything. 50-60 ft away from it, off goes the alarm. I repeat this cycle twice more. Then I decide to sit in the car, pull the key out, hit the lock button. 15s later the alarm goes off. I decide to go back home. I get in the garage, lock the doors and expect to hear the horn going off...but guess what..nothing. Has this happened to anyone else? What should you do if you HAVE to leave the car and the alarm keeps on going off? Is there a way to disengage the alarm?

POST 2Original post

There are a couple of similar reports posted here. It probably is electronic interference where you parked.

POST 3Original post

Maybe you Cayman just doesn't like Borders. It's more of a B&N kind of car.

POST 4Original post

My wife drives an Audi A4 with a similar problem where the alarm goes off for no apparent reason and at odd occassions. One thing to consider is to open and close all doors, including trunk and hoot before locking it again. Sometimes that works, otherwise, the most common problem is a weak battery which causes the alarm system to go off because it couldn't arm itself completely. I don't know if Cayman suffers the same problem, but I'd imagine most car systems run similarly.

POST 5Original post

I had a weird thing happen this morning. I keep my car locked at all times when in the garage. I did the normal routine last night and locked the car after i parked the car in my garage. This morning the horn just goes off .. no idea why.. Anyhow, i had to unlock the car for the horn to stop. I relocked the car and it didnt do it again... Any ideas why this happening? Samsam, did you ever find out why your horn/alarm was acting strange? Santa-Fe, Why types of electronic intererence were you referring too?

Hmmmm, haunted garage?! ________________________ "Sir! We're surrounded!" - "Excellent! We can shoot in any direction!" A good car will get you from point A to point B. A great car... will just get you into trouble!

POST 7Original post
