I know the radiator fans in the front will run while the engine is off. But mine have been running for the past two hours non-stop (still running), surely it does not take that long to cool down. I've searched for similar issues in the threads, but haven't found any where the fans stay on forever after engine shut down.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. I'm mostly worried about the
battery
running down.
This would happen on a Saturday night after the dealer is closed.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Sounds like a failed sensor/switch. I think I'd either hook up a
battery tender
or disconnect the
battery
. Two hours seems out of line IMO.
Too Late! Wasn't fast enough getting back from the office to the house! Tried to start it before the
battery
ran down too far, but of course instead I just got my key stuck. However, the guy that Porsche roadside assistance sent was really great, especially since he had to push it down from the 5th floor of my parking garage. Hope I get it back soon. I've only really been able to take it on a few trips since November.
We feel your pain . . .
Wow, that's a pretty serious issue on a nearly new car - at least as a major inconvenience for you. Keep us updated on what the problem turned out to be.
Thanks KS-CS,
I will be sure to let everyone know the diagnosis. I hope it was just a bad switch or sensor. I dread the thought of some other heat related/cooling system problem.
Warning: START OF VENT.
I somewhat feel like it is a rite of passage to have such a problem. But seriously! After driving a sensible car for seven years, getting a good education and finding a job I love, and I think I do well, I finally decided to put the "corvette fund" (see "tuition fund", but name changed after scholarship received) to good use. I hate the feeling that I might have made a mistake. Don't get me wrong. I love the CS, but I thought it would be a stress reliever not a stresser (my wife and I work high stress jobs and don't need any extra). I am starting to feel like I should have just gone with the the practical
lexus
or infinity (boring, no issues, no yearning to drive it, wouldn't have even needed to dip into the "corvette fund"). I hope that the feelings go away as soon as I get behind the wheel again (with the engine running). But right now I am just really bummed.
VENTING COMPLETE
Everyone living in the New England area enjoy the Super Bowl. Everyone else in the world enjoy the commercials.
The diagnosis:
Your radiator fan had a short somewhere and is staying on and draining the
battery
. New part is on its way.
The people at the dealership have been great, and gave me a
Cayenne
as a loaner. Makes you appreciate the Cayman.
Too bad they didn't give you a
Cayenne
GTS
loaner; then you'd wonder at the
Cayenne
's ability to give very near Cayman level performance.
