Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Took car to shop a couple months back, after $2,200 fuel pump replacement a month earlier, & $2,400 oil separator, breather & intake manifold hose & sleeve & water pipe, cooling replacements six weeks earlier; felt like was running on half cylinders, barely drivable. After 3 weeks, was told to pick car up, they couldn’t fully diagnose, other than extensive engine damage, given a $1,200 bill for new plugs & coils as well, left bad taste considering how much spent at same shop the past 3 years. Drove car home, has been sitting in garage ever since, bummed, perplexed about what to do, have called a couple other Porsche shops in NYC/Brooklyn where live now, has 145k miles, won’t take anything over 100k unless a classic restore. To make matters worse, only key fob came have came apart at crowded restaurant, found everything but chip, so requires a tow to dealership & $350+ for new chip & recoding. Love the car, perhaps too much ha, first Porsche, bought in 2008, low mileage, used as daily driver until 2016, had tools, did all maintenance, minor repairs diy when had private garage, enjoyed, still garaged, never tracked, major repair bills started around 65k, which just considered cost for owning/using, first with water pump, followed by the 1st engine loss, blew on highway around 77k, smoke, tears, & all, thought that was the end, but Porsche ended up comping new engine & shipping cost from Germany, had to pay labor, but came out okay, complete transmission rebuild a year later. Ended up re-locating to NYC in 2015 for work, around 120k, quit using as daily driver, but still drove often, & has been one thing after another since, showing age/wear, mainly interior, leather seats worn & need recovered, body work, right front quarter panel, front & rear bumpers. Realize has seen better days, got 145k use, lots of memories, but’s still a beautiful car, very difficult to part with, but time to say goodbye. Figure has some value, any recommendations on how to best value & sell, greatly appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Having 145k miles on a 06 CS should be no problem especially one not tracked. Don't want to insult you but it seems like you are very hard on the car given all the condition issues besides the engine problem that you've listed (interior & bodywork) Porsche makes a solid unit that should go into 100-200k miles. I also wonder what shop you are using. Having lived in metro area for 72 years and owning 7 Porsche's in the past 25 years I know the area pretty well and most of the shops around. At this point you don't know what's wrong with the car so unless you want to basically give the car away as a parts car you need to figure out what the problem is so you can then decide what to do with the car. I would suggest taking it to Tkx Performance in Huntington [phone removed] and have Thom diagnose the problem. He is one of the best Porsche Tech's in the world (#1 in North America & #3 in world) and a long time friend.
