Had the front bumper off as well this week to clear and check the rads, all ok there.

oil changes are surprisingly simple on a 996, how did you find the spark plug changing task

The most I've ever done on a car is change the oil on a Frontera and a few spark plugs.

I have done mine, the only downside is the missing service stamp in the book so I have decided to give OPC the job of changing the oil & filter to make the book look complete.

At £392 + vat - £450, Wrightune is very good value, mine's cost me £350 all in and if I could find someone to use genuine parts and do all that work for £100 down here in Haywards Heath I would have bitten their arm off.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just finally finished doing my 48k service on MY00 C4. Got most of the parts from Design911 (all genuine Porsche parts) & iridium plugs from Opie Oils. As mentioned on another thread I've had the expansion tank out and hopefully fixed a 10mm stress crack, time will tell on this one and just waiting for some Bridgestone SO2's for the front as I found a nail in one tyre (4th puncture in 2 years since I got the car-only had one other puncture in 20 years!!). Whilst waiting for the tyres, I've stripped down the front Sports Design wheels and re-sprayed them, fed up with the lacquered diamond cut rims blooming, so have primed and sprayed them silver & cleared them this time. I know it's not how they were designed to be but it looks so awful with milky corrosion under the clear that I feel this will be best. Had the front bumper off as well this week to clear and check the rads, all ok there.
The self satisfaction from doing this has been great, not to mention saving a small fortune on labour. The help that I've had from forum members/threads has enabled me to complete the work with confidence and I hope others will be encouraged to do the same. The most I've ever done on a car is change the oil on a Frontera and a few spark plugs. Despite access to some of the parts, the 996 service isn't that scary and with the internet on hand it's like having a mechanic by your elbow. Thanks to Lloyd & Richard H for advice as well. :thumb:
Fiddly & time consuming but you just need the correct tools and bendy arms! Stubby socket wrench, 5" extension (i had to use 2 x 3" as I couldn't find a 5" 3/8" extension) The hardest bit was the expansion tank but with diy thread help on Renntech all straightforward.
Just annoying the car has been off the road for 2 weeks doing this as Design 911 left me hanging on for the Mobil 1 for 10 days!
So next year it's suspension overhaul time!

Well done its about confidence I think, despite me being a retired mechanic I just dont seem able to do things myself. It seems that when I peer into confined dark areas I cant see properly and everything I touch seems to break.Good luck to you Ill bet there are so many people who could do this if only they tried. Looking at the cost aspect, how does it compare to say OPC and Indy Prices
for a 48k serv inc plugs
OPC, charge £700
Indy Prices e.g.
JZM charge £612
RSJ charge £466
I have done mine, the only downside is the missing service stamp in the book so I have decided to give OPC the job of changing the oil & filter to make the book look complete.
+ £27 for Mobil 1, so at £392 great value
I change the oil on mine by myself at the mid 6k interval but at the main 12k it's OPC Byfleet for the stamp and RSJ for everything else
ttshinykit, for those iridium sparkies, how much more were they per plug over the OEM ? tech wise they look pretty good
I paid just under £50 from Opie oils delivered, they do long life ones as well which are a bit more but I didn't see those until after i'd finished the transaction. It certainly seems a little sweeter, more responsive etc but that could be a mix of everything from the service.
At 50K I'm planning to keep this car another 50k more at least and providing I can show all the receipts for the genuine Porsche parts, I'm happy that the car is getting the right parts and I've followed the service schedule to the letter so will keep all my docs in a file to show any prospective buyer in 6 years time that I've lovingly looked after it myself!

Oxfordshire is a very competitive market Porsche wise but that's a great price. :worship:
This might sound odd but keep an eye out for special offers at Homebase for engine oil. (yes the gardening centre) You can always check first online and see which store has what in stock.
I bought Castrol Edge Engine oil from there which is normally £13.95-14.95 per litre at a price of £7-8 per litre!
