Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

The only sure way to know which bearing is in the car is to take it apart and look; the non serviceable IMS is the only design to use a 22MM center bolt.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Greetings, I'm told somewhere in Pelican is a list of serial numbers that would tell me whether a 06, 997S has the Porsche upgraded IMS bearing. Can someone please direct me? BTW I am selling a pristine 993 C2. For details email me at [email removed] Thanks, James

There is no "list" but nor does there need to be. Any Porsche delivered after 2005, any factory reman engine delivered after 2005, and even some 2005 model cars carry the non serviceable oversized IMS bearing.

POST 3Original post

JFP: Good info. How about this question...I have one of those "...even some 2005 model cars...". Per the original build list still has the same engine at 51k miles. 2005 996 C4S. Any way to tell other than dropping the trans? Thanks Bill

As we do this for a living, I can assure you that you should not place any credence in published lists of build dates, VIN's, etc. We have found every one of them to be wrong more often than not. The only sure way to know which bearing is in the car is to take it apart and look; the non serviceable IMS is the only design to use a 22MM center bolt.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
