Crapped myself about a blowout (thanks Wattie), so replaced the rear tyre, Contenential 285/30zr18 n2.

All four tyres had just been replaced in April, so I thought ok, ill repair the tyre (nail is in the main tread, so therefore a minor repair).

The place that repaired my GS-D3 refused to issue an invoice and would only accept cash: They also said that they would deny all knowledge of the repair if anything happened, as they weren't supposed to repair ANY tyres with a speed rating above 150 mph.

(Obviously this is different from puncture repairs, but I understand that there is a British Standard for puncture repairs that requires the repaired tyre to meet its orginal specifications - speed and load - so would have no particular qualms about repairing a tyre either.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I can not believe it.
Just sent car in for major service and the Reading OPC has noticed a nail in my tyre.
All four tyres had just been replaced in April, so I thought ok, ill repair the tyre (nail is in the main tread, so therefore a minor repair).
It turns out that this will void my warranty and also not allow me to extend my warranty in October.
What should I do? How can tyre repair viod warranty, tyres are exempt from the warranty in the first place!! :frustrated:
maybe they were getting over the shock of seeing your interior
seriously tho,I think it would possibly be them wanting to sell you 2 new tyres(they probably would insist on that rather than just replace one)
get them to point out where in the warranty it stipulates that a puncture invalidates the warranty
hahahaha
maybe hes green with envy.
they actually said that i would only need to replace one tyre as they were only replaced a couple of months ago.
ill have a look in the warranty now, ill also get him to point it out.
Will update soon....
I expect because the extended warranty (which isn't really a warranty at all) stipulates that all servicing must be carried by OPCs (or words to that effect) and OPCs don't repair tyres - ergo its been serviced outside the OPC network.
Thats my guess anyway, as a non-warranty holder.

exactly what they said.... :x
OPC did exactly the same to me in January - wouldn't extend my warranty as I had a minor repair to a small hole from picking up a thin piece of wire. Must have had a microscope to spot it but had to replace tyre to get cover!
If you're going to replace the tyre, definitely get the old one back and get it repaired yourself, then hey presto you have a spare for when you get another puncture.
OK, so that doesn't really help much in your situation :?
I may be wrong here, but i believe that Porsche state that N-rated tyres should not be repaired, so effectively you have a non-approved tyre on your car.
This is nothing to do with the new warranty as it happens - I was told I would have to change my non N-rated tyres to renew my warranty years ago... (and about £3,000 of other work that wasn't actually needed - so guess where I suggested they could stick their warranty!) :hand:
Used car warranty is a mechanical breakdown
insurance
and the underwriters can impose whatever conditions they like (within the boundaries of the law) and BER do not apply!
As an aside, I won't ever repair a tyre again... Had a rear blowout at 80 mph in a 3.5 tonne motorhome (tyre de-laminated - believed repaired before I bought the van) and I'm in no hurry to repeat that experience!
I shudder to think what might have happened here...
I had a non-N-rated front tyre, complete with a puncture repair, on the car at the time
Update...
Crapped myself about a blowout (thanks Wattie), so replaced the rear tyre, Contenential 285/30zr18 n2. Got it for a good price, £182 ex. VAT. from Porsche Reading, including fitting.
Cheers dudes
I use non N-Rated tyres all the time. Well, about half the time, and don't really have a great deal of faith in the N-rating system especially for no longer current cars.
(Obviously this is different from puncture repairs, but I understand that there is a British Standard for puncture repairs that requires the repaired tyre to meet its orginal specifications - speed and load - so would have no particular qualms about repairing a tyre either. Assuming it was done to the standard of course.)
Have to say they were much better tyres - Goodyear GS-D3s - especially in the wet, but I then couldn't get new rears at the time I needed them so went back to Contis (which were much improved by then anyway)
But how would you know? :?:
The place that repaired my GS-D3 refused to issue an invoice and would only accept cash: They also said that they would deny all knowledge of the repair if anything happened, as they weren't supposed to repair ANY tyres with a speed rating above 150 mph.
I was over 100 miles away from home at the time and they hadn't got a replacement, so I had no choice at the time (other than 100+ miles at 50 mph on the skinny inflatable jobby - and no space inside the car for the wheel with the punctured tyre). Another tyre fitter refused point blank to repair it.
Wouldn't do it again though... I always worried about it and turned down an offer of a free track day because of it.
