The only loom changes are extending the heated seat switches to the rear console blanks and tapping in for a switched live.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The CDR-23 MOST has no switched 12V, only perm 12V. Is there anywhere I can take a feed for my new Head Unit? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Let's get this right you're replacing a MOST headunit, I assume you're removing the amps and rewiring the speaker loom? Brave man! If you get a diagram of the relay board you should be able to find a switched 12v, luckily enough for us Porsche maintain a common wiring colour scheme, so once that's identified you should be able to pick up a switched from somewhere close by.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You don't need to rewire the speakers. The speakers are standard copper core wire. You just need a new amp (although the head unit might cope on it's own internal amp). Personally I'm taking out the CDC-4 and putting my new amp in there, it's almost a perfect fit. Then tapping into the speaker wires. I just need a switched 12V (probably from the fusebox) then I can start putting everything back together.

POST 4Original post

As Damian says, on the back of the relay panel you should see some orange wires, which are switched 12v+ connections. You could tap in to one of those. They should also work when the key is in the auxilliary position. You might get lucky and find one nearer to the radio position.

POST 5Original post

I know that I've been there and done that and still have a few T-shirts left if you're interested Just remember if your Porsche is under a OPC warranty you can kiss goodbye to any renewal if you go ahead with this, so I'd recommend as few as possible permanent changes to the loom. Also be aware that the amp/changer all communicate with the ECU so errors will be logged, not that you have to worry about them

POST 6Original post

I was thinking of upgrading the sound system in my 996 Cab - where would be a good place to get this done, near Ely, and what should I budget. Not worried about the Porsche warranty - car too old and anyway now Hartecked!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I tapped into E8 on the fusebox (a green/black) wire which is for telephone and something else. I think it's been recommended before on here for tapping into. Had to add a few wires to the connector but I had a spare BMW to Becker adaptor in the garage so I stole a couple from that. No worries on the warranty, I don't intend on going OPC if I can avoid it. Everything should be reversible. The only loom changes are extending the heated seat switches to the rear console blanks and tapping in for a switched live.

POST 8Original post

Good work, just don't forget the anti-tamper microswitch in the headunit cradle, not a worry if you're replacing it with another Becker.

POST 9Original post

I'd be interested to know if tapping into E8 allows the radio to operate with the key in the auxiliary position, and shuts down only when you remove the key. If not, use E1. I assume you spliced in to the TOP connection of the fuse - the fuse output.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Haven't checked about the key in position but doesn't matter for me as the Becker stays on for an hour if you push the button without the key in. Yes, tapped into the top connection. the Green/Black is the output to the Telephone. Almost done. Just need to find some grommets large enough for the iPod connector so I can put it in the glovebox and then start putting it back together.
