When ever I have new tires installed, I take the rims off of the P car myself, and remove the old balancing weights, and clean the inside surface of the rim.

I wonder if it might work to clean the insides of the wheels when I swap them each year between summer and winter tires.

This way, I don't have to worry about the inside rim being damaged by the tire jockey removing the weights, and I give him a clean surface to install the new weights.

Remember also to use Excello when you balance your wheel to clean the surface where your wheel weights go, so they won't come up when you spray them with a pressure sprayer.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Next - use goo-gone and an edged wooden dowel to scrape the remaining foam off the wheel (BTW - your wifes wooden salad spatulas work better - but, only use them when she's not home.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Any suggestions on a solvent/cleaner etc. that I can use to remove adhesive wheel weights from my 18" factory wheels. Any technique to it? I've seen the results of gas station monkeys using a big screwdriver! Bad, Very bad! Let me know....
Sure!
Lift the corner of the first weight by taking a razor blade and cutting the foam on the BACK of the weight (not the foam edge on the wheel!). Pull the strip of weights off...

Oh, and clean them really well afterwards. The remenants of goo-gone will add a special "zing" to your next salad. Complement her on the taste of the new dressing she must be using....

While I'm NOT a CCW - it has worked for me

1. Take some dental floss and "saw" the weight off of its foam adhesive tape substrate.
2. Soak the foam tape that remains on the rim with 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover. Let it soak in for a minute or 2, and the foam tape will just wipe off.

Why use a razor blade, trying to scrape off the paint surface? I have a friend that owns a wheel shop and they never use razor blades. I go over there and do my own mounting and balancing. They use blunt putty knives and excello. They just have to be thin enough to get in the adhesive layer. You just pour some excello on a rag and wipe the adhesive tape right of. The Excello dissinigrates it. Remember also to use Excello when you balance your wheel to clean the surface where your wheel weights go, so they won't come up when you spray them with a pressure sprayer. Weights applied to a dirty surface won't stick well. I've made this mistake myself.
Hey 02. What is Excello and where might I buy something like that? Does it damage the wheel's finish? I wonder if it might work to clean the insides of the wheels when I swap them each year between summer and winter tires. Generally, they are quite dirty and covered in many places with tar from the road.
