Car is lowered and running some negative camber but it was doing the same thing before it was lowered.

Hi, I've had 3 years of hassle free 996 motoring here in OZ except for an annoying whine / drone type sound from the rear of the car. Usually starts at around 50mph / 75kph upwards and always on throttle. Above 90kph I don't really notice anymore - could be the cargraphic mufflers hiding the sound! Been the same since I bought the car and has not got any worse just annoying. I do run a set of 295 / 18's on the rear and wondering if it's Tyre noise. I'm guessing a bearing would be a constant sound and this is not. Car is lowered and running some negative camber but it was doing the same thing before it was lowered. Any thoughts appreciated. Could be the pinion bearing in the diff. When mine started failing it was a feint whine when picking up slight throttle in 5th/6th around 50mph. It then deteriorated until it ended up sounding like it had a supercharger. Took 30k+ miles from 1st noticing it until I eventually had a rebuild.

:yeah: Or the main bearing in the gearbox. Diff would be a cheaper fix but could be either. I had the box on my old C2 rebuilt for the gearbox bearings. Big job. Same symptoms as Stotty's diff bearings. A whine in higher gears from about 50mph.

Hi, I had the same whining. Removed the wife from the car but still get the whining at home. At least it's not from the car anymore. Regards Vinny
