When I ordered my turbo I had every option I wanted + some I didn't care much about. I was hesitant to risk it with a PTS that I never saw in the flesh. Voodoo Blue was on my mind but it wasn't a big deal not opting for it.
Now I wish I opted for a PTS and if God continues his blessings, I look forward to have my next Porsche in Voodoo Blue or Birch Green.
Anybody else wishing opting for a PTS?
Here are pics I came across of Birch Green... mashallah.
Nope. I'm quite happy with the colour I got.
I actually ended up going for PTS. I am typically a more frugal person - but in this case, I know I am getting the car in order to have something unique and special (in my eyes). None of the other colors made my pants get tight or I did not think I would appreciate them after year 5-6-7 (yellow, white, red).
Some of the decision to kick out other colors had to do with the color of my previous cars (did not care to repeat colors that I already had). $5,500 is hard to swallow for paint - but I feel it will make the overall ownership experience more special. I plan to keep it for a long time.
As many Porsches tend to look the same on the road (911, Cayman, etc) - I thought this would be a good way to stand out. I had a Midnight Blue 996 Turbo, honestly - it rarely got attention.
Now, some people want to blend and not be noticed - no worries. I want to make a bit of a statement.
Would I do the same for an Aston Martin - no, those are unique as-is.
Voodoo is an awesome blue...I never saw one in person, but it looked a bit to purple for my tastes in pictures. I saw a Mexico Blue in the flesh and that clinched it for me.
I wonder if going PTS would create a problem getting a panel repainted down the road in the event of an accident? It seems getting an exact match on a standard color is challenging enough for many body shops. Would PTS further complicate the repair process?
I highly doubt it (but what do I know). In the end, it is just a color with a specific composition / paint code.
I think the more difficult part is matching any metallic paint rework. I believe this is more of a challenge than non-metallic finishes.
When I was ordering my Cayman GTS I had the desire to do PTS (maritime blue) as like others have mentioned, I wanted my car to be unique in color. The problem was that PTS was not offered at the time I was ordering the car and was told it may be many more months before it was. As it happened, PTS became an option while my car was on the boat headed to the US.
I love the rhodium silver color on my car, but can't help admiring someone else's Porsche when I see a PTS car.
