Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Rod from Car Audio Innovations made a road trip to Vegas to see the electronics show and do an install in my 2004 C4S Cab. I'm attaching a few pictures of the install in progress. Big kudos to Rod for exceptional service. He was so helpful in helping me pick components that would meet my needs while keeping the cost to something I was comfortable with. I thought I might have to pay through the nose since he works on lots of high-end cars, but he is reasonable and, did I mention, extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I now know firsthand what other folks on Rennlist have already discovered ....this guy provides excellent service. Here's what is getting installed: Kenwood DDX6019 7" screen headunit Kenwood\Garmin navigation integrated through head unit Sirius radio tuner integrated into headunit iPod interface through head unit Audison SRx5, 5 channel amp Focal PolyglassV2 4" 2-way slims in dash Focal Polykevlar 5" door subs in door Hertz 4" coaxials in rear sides That's it for now. I'll let you know how it sounds. I'm especially interested since I opted to not do separate 8" subs behind the seats. I don't need thump, just good overall sound for a variety of music....and it has to be heard of a Champion tubi exhaust and cabriolet top.

POST 2Original post

Nice system...I have a similar setup...Kenwood DDX7015, Audison LRX6.9 (from Rod), Focal 165V3E 3 way sep system and a custom 8" footwell sub...ITS AMAZING....I also have the Sirius, ipod, and Nav...its an amazing system.

POST 3Original post

i woudl be afraid to let somebody mess w/my p!

POST 4Original post

Rod does P cars F cars and all high end autos....he has a shop in Sacramento....if anyone in the USA knows Porsches its Rod..... www.caraudioinnovations.com

POST 5Original post

I had Rod send me all the gear and did the install myself, he sent great instructions too. Rod is da 911 music mang!!

POST 6Original post

I just had a similar install done here before x-mas- I want to post some pics if it ever stops snowing here and I could pull the car out of the garage. Had to replace the Nakamichi head unit already and did an alpine after more than one person told me that they have issues often. I think my Focals are a little brighter than I had hoped and I will probably go with Dynaudio in the future. It is an amazing upgrade and I would never go back to stock! I am sure you'll be thrilled-

POST 7Original post

also ,about the subs.. I didnt do the subs at first and went back and did later because I thought the Focal have no bass and I dont really "thump" - curious to see what you think

POST 8Original post

You should match your components to get the sound you want....Alpine head units have a "hyped" sound so it will sound more bright through the Focals, your Nak probably sounded more natural...What amp are you using? JL Audio would probably be a good match with the Alpine and Focals...its not as bright on the high end. My Focals sound AMAZING with my Audison and Kenwood...not too bright at all...

POST 9Original post

Yeah, I did the sub shortly after the amp/speakers....the sub I got makes a HUGE difference...it has the ability to thump if wanted, but in general provides a rfeally accurate strong low end....which balances out the high end perfectly. I got my sub from AI Design in New York..it has a JL Audio 8" driver.

POST 10Original post

Actually the Alpine is smoother than the Nak- I was amazed by this as well and one of the reason's I went with it. As bright as I thought they were I thought the Alpine would make it worse but I was pleasently suprised. I did listen to JL amps but I went with soundstream in the end. There wasnt anyone here local where I could hear the Audison first but I did consider it- I just liked them better- Everyone that hears the car thinks its amazing but if I had it to do over I would do Dyna's, after years of having a super high end audio nut brother I probably notice things that most people dont or wouldnt bother them. I do enjoy it greatly either way FYI

POST 12Original post

Newport.... how much did you get your sub for?

POST 13Original post

$800....I think they recently raised the price though.....

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Price was about $4,150 including $640 in labor. There was a problem with the front left dash speaker, but Rod is shipping on to me and he gave me detailed instructions for installing it. Since he ran the wires it will be very easy to install...really no problem at all. Even with a missing speaker, the sound is wonderful. I will have to figure out how to work the Kenwood head unit - lots of options, but other than that I am very pleased. Rod is sending me a resister to put in-line for the stock 4x6 sub in the passenger footwell. He wired it up from the amp so all I have to do is slip the new resister in to bring the Bose POS up to approx 5 Ohms. I'm sure I'll probably go the route of putting an 8" in there like Newport 996 did, but for now.... Rod even fixed some wiring that a less qualified installer ran when installing my K40. I am impressed. I wish all service-oriented businesses treated their customers so well.
