Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Key in ignition, turn to position one, disconnect negative, disconnect positive, unbolt battery and then refit.

Anything I should be weary of when changing the battery over?

Suggestion
If the battery is old (it stamps the week and year on it) you may as well change that rather than incur a 30 minute labour charge to test the alternator output.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
Got back from 9e yesterday and had a major service, always a excellent job and service from the team!
Anyway, the sunroof got very slow and we had a real job trying to close it, with lubricant, and pulling it shut.
Then when I got home and the car had become cold, I went to restart it and all I could hear was clicking sound (typical of when the battery is dead and cannot turn the starter motor over).
So I'm guessing the battery is on it's way, have also noticed in the past, sometimes the car just turns over without starting, not particularly slowly though....sometimes I have gone to start and there was nothing....so i've taken the key out and tried again and all ok.
Now please don't shoot me, the car is a garage queen and gets very little use and it sits on the C-tek for months on end.
So is this definately the battery and if so, which one shall I get?

Bosch S5
Other?
Some say AGM and others do not?
Help appreciated.

PS. Anything I should be weary of when changing the battery over? My S-Class has to have NASA involved after a battery change!
AGM is usually for cars with auto stop/start, although my Range Rover has one as well. I've never seen them used in a 996. Personally I go for a Bosch S5 if I can from somebody reputable like Tayna or ECP, although ECP seem to rarely have them at good prices these days. They have been very good at honouring the 5 year warranty when I have needed it though.
Battery change is really easy on these. Key in ignition, turn to position one, disconnect negative, disconnect positive, unbolt battery and then refit.

...Yuasa is the battery brand that I always fit; not convinced Bosch are all that tbh ...my local garage swears by them and recommends them despite selling both ...
Costco have S4 013 for about £100.
as the man said to me "you'd best get a trolley". He was right the thing is huge and weighs a metaphorical ton.
I was wondering why you need to turn the ignitin key to the 1st position before removing the negative terminal?
When I had my turbo it lived on a ctek and only once showed a possible sign that it was sluggish. Went to start it one morning and nothing but clicking. Replaced with a Bosch S5.
OK, quick update... The car has been used all weekend... Which is a first lol.
While driving, if I switch on the ac and stereo the battery needle drops to 13 Volts.
If I don't use anything and just drive the car, it is showing 14 volts on the dash.
So is this a battery or alternator issue, or could it be both?
Iceboy
To be sure, you'd need to test the alternator output at an indy or auto electrician. If the battery is old (it stamps the week and year on it) you may as well change that rather than incur a 30 minute labour charge to test the alternator output.
Bosch S5 would be my recommendation.

I watched this video today. It shows how to tell the age/date manufactured of Bosch and Varta batteries.
Both of which are made in the same factory.
The reason i watched it is that my 858 dated Bosch s4 008 battery loses its charge by 1 volt over the period of 1 week when disconnected.
The month of mfg is oct 2018 and Bosch are not interested in fulfilling the 4 year guarantee. I spoke to them today and was told to take it back to the supplier. Unfortunately the receipt was not included when i bought the car so that is that.
I am sure i will find a suitable battery from another manufacturer.
