Thanks for your thoughts - The Boxter and the 996 Coupe use the same window motor so that may rule out the convertible roof ECU - it is just the 996 Cabrio that is different.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi out there. Does anybody know the difference between the front window motor on a 996 Coupe and a 996 Cabrio? I noticed that they have different part numbers but I cannot see any reason behind this - both have the comfort window drop on opening the door, the size of the window that they have to lift / lower is roughly the same and the window regulator is the same part in both variants. Must be some reason behind this - just curious. Cheers. Lewis.

POST 2Original post

The convertible roof ECU has to be able to independently control the window operation. May be something to do with that. :dont know:

Hi Alex, Thanks for your thoughts - The Boxter and the 996 Coupe use the same window motor so that may rule out the convertible roof ECU - it is just the 996 Cabrio that is different. See you are from the Ribble Valley - love the roads in the Trough of Bowland - had many a happy blast around there (I used to work at Samlesbury). Cheers, Lewis

The Boxster doesn't have a convertible top control unit ( its a mechanical system as such ) .. the 996 cab does .. The roof control unit needs information on the position of the windows . I don't have an answer but for me Alex,s comments make sense and i feel is the correct answer .
