I did see Alex posted a few years ago where he had a similar problem but on stripping out he found a rivet had got loose which held the canvas close to the channel and once he had replaced that all was good, I suppose it's worth checking on that first.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi I have what I believe is a slack tension cable one side, always been a bit loose but noticeably now. Is there a fix where by I can do something to tighten it. The end you can get to has a crimped eye, just wondered if anyone has replaced that and taken the slack up somehow?. Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

I'm afraid it will be the front end of the cable that has broken .. there is a spring on the cable which is riveted in place .. this can break . It can be fixed but the front section of roof fabric will need pulling back . At a guess i would say 2 hrs labor at a garage plus parts .

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the response, that's what I was wondering. I did see Alex posted a few years ago where he had a similar problem but on stripping out he found a rivet had got loose which held the canvas close to the channel and once he had replaced that all was good, I suppose it's worth checking on that first. Is there any other clue to it being as you say before committing?.

POST 4Original post

Cable won't have broken. The rivet has that holds it in place will have. Both mine have done it now. Write-up I did here: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=103442

POST 5Original post

No clues without pulling back the fabric and looking .. but both me and Alex have said its probably the rivet In short the cable is a set length .. if fastened at both ends then this cant happen .. it can only go slack if the cable is detached at one end or the other .. the rear eye section is ok so logically its the front that has broken .

POST 6Original post

Awesome, I need to do mine too... Thanks again Alex!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorted! Thanks chaps, all sorted now. Largely as Alex described and no major dramas. Looked at a pop rivet solution but didn't have any long enough so cut a bolt down with self locking nut. Works perfectly at the moment. Will add a couple of photos shortly.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Photos A couple of photos as evidence😀

POST 9Original post

Magic! That's stage 1 of psyching yourself up to fit a new roof if you ever need to.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Alex, it had a new one fitted when I got the car 4 years ago, besides I remember your dramas when you did yours!
