Would be cool to compare it to is reg conv on a test drive.

Suggestion
I guess it would come down to test driving one back to back with a coupe with the sunroof to see if it really makes that big a difference.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A question for 981ers as you are unbiased observers in this... Has anyone seen a 991 Targa in the wild yet? I have spotted a BGTS, CGTS, and even a 981 driving on the street. But the Targa remains elusive...
Nope. Not yet. Only one I've seen in person was in Detroit at the auto show and they wouldn't even work the roof on it while I was there.
Incidentally... it's kinda like the Spyder to me. I love that it exists and think it's really cool, but I can't imagine it being the model I'd actually buy if I were looking for a 911. That roof on it is really cool, but seems incredibly impractical to actually live with. I guess it would come down to test driving one back to back with a coupe with the sunroof to see if it really makes that big a difference. It's a shame that drop-top 911's don't look better.
I've just seen one at the dealer as well. The getawayer has a review of it. Would be cool to compare it to is reg conv on a test drive.

Hey Weasel, don't pp on my Spyder parade lol!
imdrove the Targa at the fall Porsche traveling road show. It was really nice but I am still waiting to glimpse one in the wild
There was one at the Chicagoland PCA picnic last August entered in Concours.
The owners were very busy polishing and didn't have time for a ride.
I have seen some at the Dealership being prepped for delivery.
On allocation and no discount available.
My concern is the reports of noise and seals with the top up and until I can drive and inspect one, get a discount, no sale.-Richard
I love the look of the targa but cant help wonder why they didn't just make the removable top manual.
I think the mechanism is petty cool but a bit over complicated. May just need to see it in action to be convinced.
I have yet to see a Cayman GTS in the wild. Seen a couple Boxsters, no Caymans...
I see at least a dozen 911's every day... Caymans are far more rare, at least around here.
Have seen sapphire blue at the dealership. Racing yellow used by the president of Stuttgart motors. Silver on the street.
Targa is pretty coollooking especially with its new convertible style top. Very sophisticated
By the way, the first 918 spyder was purchased by a dentist. I dont understand why they said dentists have higher rate of suicide in "the whole nine yards"

I've spotted a few Targas here in SoCal, even one over this weekend. A couple in Sapphire Blue, looks great in this color.
I got to drive the Targa 4S on the track at PWRS. What a blast! When compared to the B/C GTS we got to drive that day, as one can expect, it didn't feel as nimble but, of course, packs more punch when you jump on it. I'm thinking guys like Sportwagen with their 3.8L conversion are just loving it, having the best of both worlds. Jelly!
Seen it. Would be a good compromise if you wanted a sports car and the other person in your household wanted a convertible. Then again, you could buy a Boxster and a Cayman for the price.

As cool as it works and looks, it weighs 88lbs more than the convertible and 242lbs more than the carrera 4. And I bet the weight is high on the car. But I wouldn't kick it out of bed, either.
There were two in New Caanan, CT at C & C event a few weeks back. One was Sapphire Blue the other was white. The white one was driven by a Porsche SA who use to work at Monticello (MMC). I have seen the Blue one (or maybe another blue one) a few times on the road.
I don't think I have actually seen one in person. It looks gorgeous, but I would never buy a car with a cloth top. I don't get why the targa can't have a hard top, since it shouldn't have to fold like the cabriolet's top does.
Only at a dealership. Beautiful car. However after 8 months I finally saw my first Boxster GTS on the road up in Paramus NJ on Rt.17. We followed each other for a few miles then parted. I also find that a 911 Cabriolet does not look as nice as a Boxster. But the Targa looks sharp. If I would move to a 911 that would be the vehicle for me.
30 years ago when it was a lightweight roof that popped off. Targas have been made since 1969, a classic 911 look. Today's version emulates the original much better than the 997 version but I think will sell as poorly (~5% of sales).
Sorry Chow, my memory has failed me. It seems like one of the regulars on P9 traded for a targa last year and I was thinking it was you. My apologies.

No, you were right. I used to own one. Not now. They are pretty though. But for 19K more than a coupe for a bloated luxury build, after you add the options, you're close to a stripped Turbo. So lets see ... Stripped TT vs Targa. Hmm
Let me think about that
Only saw one in 2014 in Switzerland - really beautiful in person, better than pictures. However IMO, more of a specialized tool. Heavier, convertible, more components - but great whiz-bang value
Wow, this is Exactly where I expect to see them. I got this vision of an AWD drive, luxury build in a ski resort for jet setters. Gotta have that AWD for the snow. Either that or celebrities buy them (a guess). No performance oriented buyer would ever buy a Targa at ~350 lbs heavier than a coupe, substantially slower than a coupe, and not that far away, once specced, than a TT, there is no way they are going to sell many of these to mainstream buyers. But it is pretty. I expect it to die a slow death by apathy before the end of the 991.2 production run.
Same here. When I met David Burkhalter in Geneva, we discussed the Targa roof. I asked why not make it a light weight carbon fiber panel to take off. Since you have to be standing to lower the targa roof it is not really a big time drain (and may be faster). Well, according to David, they did some customer studies in their major target markets (LA and southern Cali got mentioned) and apparently the buyers there preferred an automatic roof.
If they had it with a light weight manual panel roof, and kept the weight lower than the equivalent cabrio, I could see the appeal of the Targa (I think it looks stunning). But having driven C2S, C2S Convertibles (Hi Gordon
) (and been driven in a GT3 at a track) and the Targa, I prefer the GT3 over the C2Ses over the Targa.
Coming from Switzerland, the Porsche for the skiing crowd is the C4S (and the C4GTS): all wheel drive and the ability to mount a ski roof rack to put your expensive carbon fiber skis on. A Targa would be useless
