Pretty sure you could take it to any run of the mill garage and get it regassed for £70.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
Those who use a garage to change the air con condensors, what labour are you paying.
My indy who are great, want £300 labour plus £189 to regas plus vat. Seems pricey to me. I know it's a 2.5 hour job.
Not a moan rather checking the current prices.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Vinny
£189 to regas?
Pretty sure you could take it to any run of the mill garage and get it regassed for £70. I'd challenge them on why they're charging that much - it may well be that they're including other parts in that charge?
The machines are expensive especially as they now need to cover the new refrigerant gas and the gas itself is expensive. I'm sure kwik fit etc will make only pence doing it for £60 and are using it as a tool to sell from. All that said £189 is astronomical!!
Similar money to what I have been quoted and I see we are both near London.
I was given some advice by the Indy about checking the pipe work near the engine. Apparently a common point for leaks and also seized pipes. If the join is seized, then it's a big job!
The actual gas used is about £30 on a 996 at trade rate ... we do need to make a profit though .... its roughly £280 per 12 kgs atm ... a regas is normally anywhere from £65 and upwards .. i believe we charge £85 .. not sure there for gas and labour .
There is time to actually connect the machine and workshop space as its the best part of 1 hr to actually regas a car .. if you give it the proper tests that is .
A/C condensers to replace ..
R&R the bumper / pu is 0.9 hrs
A/c condensers i would say at another hour chargeable rate .
Bitch screws that have been grounded out on speed humps .. 0.4 .
A generous time would be 2.5 hrs to actually do .. bear in mind we may well do it quicker , i can on a straight forward system with no problems , and in that case i would say 1.5 hrs total .
Thats with no issues though .. London and the labour will be higher .
labour charge and i wont argue .. gas is a bit on the high side though .
Perfectly put demort. Labour for the work is reasonable especially in London. Profit shouldn't be a vile word for any business including garages but just ask if they are sure on the regas charge. Garages will evac the gas in the system anyway and may get some out which obviously goes to refilling
