The Oil Pump's factory 8MM Allen drive is replaced with a slotted 8MM drive.
Leading evidence: 'Replace with a slotted 8mm drive' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace with a slotted 8mm drive' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
Any thoughts or experience of this? I am doing a bit of a strip down shortly so thought it could be worth doing while i am in there;
Intermediate Shaft Bearing Pressurized Oil Feed Kit
How it works?
The Oil Pump's factory 8MM Allen drive is replaced with a slotted 8MM drive. The slot on the new 8MM drive will provide a governed oil passage from the oil Pump pressure side into and through the IMS.
This is achieved by punching a small hole in the cover at the front of the IMS. The front cover is a very thin metal plug, only .25MM thick. Using a sharpened center punch and a hammer the hole can be opened with relative ease.
This pressurized oil will flow through the IMS and in to the the IMS bearing. This will maintain a constant, fresh oil flow to the IMS bearing.
This is assuming you have no seals on the IMS bearing? Also the pump drive is quite important and could be weakened, so I'm not sure there is much benefit over splash lubrication for the bearing with both bearing seals removed, there could also be loss in oil pressure to other areas of the engine?
I have a billet pump drive and a IMS bearing with both seals removed and has been fine for quite a few years now.
I am assuming the seals have in some way worn to allow some oil in. All assumption at the moment. Apparently the slot in the drive is calculated so oil pressure is not affected. I was looking at it because I am going down the X51 sump route so while its apart it could be a little extra lubrication. Eventually when its clutch or gearbox time I will probably swap the IMS bearing.
Bear in mind that the oil circuit would look like this, if you performed the mod you are thinking about:
Sump>Oil pump>unfiltered oil via channel in IMS drive key into IMS bearing>back to sump
Whereas, if you didn't do the mod but removed the seals, it would be as follows:
Sump>Oil pump>oil filter>splash lubrication of IMS bearing>sump
Personally I'd avoid feeding unfiltered oil to the IMS bearing.
The other thing to be aware of is that the IMS drive key/shaft isn't hugely strong - from memory it's an 8mm flat-to-flat hex shaft that's 50mm long.
I'd replace it with a billet part as Infrasilver has done, rather than replacing it with a part made of unknown metal that has a slot in it.
